In case you missed the memo, it’s Nordstrom Anniversary Sale season. By now you’ve probably seen our own personal hits & misses, a round-up for the kiddos, and our favorites for around the house. But this one’s for the boys. That’s right, the sale isn’t only for new boots and cozy sweaters– but we did stock up on plenty of those too! Here at LIY, we take pride in covering alllll the bases– just take a look at our hubbies [hubba hubba 😉 ]. Today, Team LIY graciously volunteered their other halves to bring another round of LIY for Your Guy: Nordstrom Anniversary Sale Edition.

Sankaty Stripe Half Zip Performance Pullover • Vineyard Vines [size down if in between, wearing in small] // Marcus Slim Straight Leg Jeans • Mavi Jeans [true to size] // Generation ZeroGrand Stitchlite Sneaker • Cole Haan [true to size]
I’ve had a couple other V V shirts, and while I really liked the style and quality I had ordered in medium and they seemed to be slightly too big. I saw this quarter zip in the sale and really liked the style, so I figured I’d give it a shot by sizing down to a small. It appears that did the trick as this fits much better. Quality is nice and soft, should be perfect for the late summer/early fall outdoor evening activities. Moral of the story, don’t write it off until you’ve tried a different size!
Brace Slim Fit Solid Polo • AllSaints [true to size, wearing in medium] // Marcus Slim Straight Leg Jeans • Mavi Jeans [true to size] // Generation ZeroGrand Stitchlite Sneaker • Cole Haan [true to size]
I’d never heard of or seen the ALLSAINTS brand, however, polo shirts are often a tough fit for me so I’m always interested to try something new. I fall between a small and medium, and since these are slim fit I ordered a medium. The fit is great for me, not too long and not too baggy like I often find in polos. Ordered in two colors, because that’s what us men often do when they find something they like, just buy it in a bunch of colors.
Marcus Slim Straight Leg Jeans • Mavi Jeans [true to size] // Generation ZeroGrand Stitchlite Sneaker • Cole Haan [true to size]
My beloved Mavi jeans, I’ve had a couple pairs of Marcus Slim’s for a couple years now and they have held up incredibly well. Once again, when you find something you like just buy them in multiple! They fit well and are very comfortable so what more can you ask for?
I am very impressed by this polo shirt! The blade collar with the stripe makes it a little unique and sets it apart from all the other polo shirts out there. The slim fit is perfect and it is soft and comfortable. I think this is the highest quality shirt that I own!
These old school sneakers were my first item I added to cart. They are so classic Adidas, and I can wear them with just about anything in my closet. They’re very comfortable and I am very happy with this purchase!
Life is too short to not wear polarized sunglasses. This is my first polarized pair, and I don’t think I’ll be going back! I like the shape and the overall look. I will say that these are not the highest quality sunglasses I have ever owned, but as a guy who occasionally misplaces his sunglasses, I am still happy with them at this price point!
I have a bit of a jacket collection, and this one is one of the cooler ones I own! I like that while most utility jackets are button ups, this one has a zipper to make it just a little unique and the elastic at the bottom makes it look cool. It fits well, and is long enough for my long arms which is hard to find! It even has an internal pocket for stashing things away. I will definitely be wearing this jacket a lot this fall.
While Nordstrom isn’t where I normally shop, this was an interesting experience finding clothes from the sale. Because of my building finding shirts that aren’t too tight around my arms and jeans that have flex to them is difficult. This button up shirt was surprisingly comfortable and wasn’t tight. I know several guys have talked about these jeans and was also pleasantly surprised at how well they fit.
Another great find from the sale, these sneakers. Dressy enough for date night but also comfortable and go with a lot.
This tee fit better than I was thinking. It wasn’t too tight and surprisingly longer. Tees are either too tight, too short or both and this one fit just right. It was easily one of my favorite items from the sale.
If your husband has more of an athletic fit, this pullover is a great option! It’s got a ton of stretch but didn’t stretch out and I like that it was a henley and hoodie. A great option for Fall and it’s lightweight.
This first outfit is the outfit that my wife [hi Cass!] hand selected for me from the sale! She’s pretty stylish so she wanted me to have some trendy pieces in my closet. I must admit, the pants are pretty cool. Cropped length, plaid pattern, and they have a zip + button closure plus a drawstring. I wouldn’t necessarily wear these to work but I would wear them to a summer wedding, date night, or just when I am feeling fancy. The t-shirt was definitely a win. Comfy and I like the oversized/casual look of it. Finally, I knew the sneakers would be a hit. Stylish and comfortable. I have a similar Cole Haan sneaker that I wore all last year and they have held up great!
One thing I needed from the sale were some nice looking polos that were suitable for work. These Nordstrom polos seemed to be the best bang for your buck! I am pretty happy with the material/overall quality and would recommend them to a friend. Since my wife has worked at Living in Yellow, Mavi Jeans have become my favorite go-to jeans. They are lightweight and comfortable and can easily be worn all day at work.
Back with another polo, just in a different color! If I find something that I like, I am definitely that guy who will buy the same thing in different colors. Only regret is not getting all of the colors! Cass and I both picked out these pants because of the sage color–something a little different from your everyday denim. They are definitely more fitted than the Mavi Jeans and are slightly tighter in the thighs, I recommend sizing up if you are in between sizes or prefer looser fitting pants.
I chose this button up by RVCA because the material and fit are great. I also love the casual vibes of this shirt, great to wear out for a couple of drinks, etc. (If you haven’t noticed it yet, comfort is a resounding theme with me, and this shirt doesn’t disappoint!) Fit is more on the athletic/slim side so size accordingly.
The “Jake fit” in Mavi jeans checks a lot of the boxes for me, which is why they are bar none, my favorite jeans to date. Super comfortable, great looking, and won’t break the bank! These long lasting jeans have quickly become a staple for me.
The material that this shirt is made of is extremely soft with a bit of an “athletic wear” feel to it. I love the hemline in this shirt, as it gives me a little more wiggle room for shrinkage. The taper is definitely more of an athletic fit, so size accordingly.
Shoes [true to size]
Being active on my feet all day, comfortable footwear is a necessity. Wearing a tennis shoe is frowned upon in a lot of scenarios for my job, so I need something that has “all day” comfort with a classy look. This is exactly why I gravitate towards these Cole Haans. Great fit (true to size), can be used for a casual or business casual outfit, and long lasting comfort. Can’t go wrong!!
I love quarter zips for their versatility, and this Johnnie-O Vaughn Quarter Zip Pullover is a great option if you are looking for a lightweight pullover for work, golf, or date night. Soft, lightweight material – goes great with dress slacks, golf pants or jeans. Definitely a great option for late spring, cool summer nights, and early fall. The light grey gives me the option to pair with my khaki, dark grey, and/or black dress pants, as well as jeans.
These Bonobos Slim Fit Dress Pants are super comfortable (which is not always the case with “slim fit” pants). If given the choice, I always choose comfort over “fashion” – but with these pants, I don’t have to sacrifice either! The dark grey color gives me the versatility to wear them with basically any dress shirt and/or sweater I have in my wardrobe, which is a huge plus. If you are looking for a pair of pants that provide a tailored fit without breaking the bank, these definitely do the trick.
BEST DEAL OF THE ENTIRE SALE! I am getting ready to start my clinical rotations for medical school, so I was looking to pick up some dress shirts to add to my wardrobe. After searching around the Nordstrom site, I realized that I could snag this 3 Pack of blue Nordstrom Trim Fit Dress Shirts for less than the cost of 1 dress shirt from other brands. So this was a no-brainer for me. They fit true to size and provide a tailored appearance without breaking the bank. I’m pretty boring and like having the same color of dress shirt (light blue goes with any color dress pant that I own and can be worn under any sweater I own), so I actually prefer the monotony of having 3 of the same color shirt. Makes for one less decision I have to make in the morning!
The light blue dress shirt from above paired with a different color of the Bonobos Slim Fit Dress pants! When I find something I like, I just keep going back to the well. Haha. Similar to the grey color, the mushroom (i.e., khaki) color gives me versatility to pair these pants with pretty much any dress shirt and/or sweater in my wardrobe. Can’t say enough great things about these pants – I’m a fan!
This Cutter and Buck Quarter Zip is a little heavier than the Johnnie-O quarter zip in the above picture, but it’s not overly heavy. It’s a great option for work or date night, and as the weather turns a bit cooler, will be great for golf this fall. Paired with the Bonobos Slim Fit Dress Pants.
Vineyard Vines Sankaty Stripe Half Zip Performance Pullover [TTS, wearing in L] / Mavi Jeans Zach Straight Leg Jeans [TTS, wearing in 33×32] / ONITSUKA TIGER ‘Serrano’ Sneaker [TTS]
Comfortable, professional and current was what I was striving for with this outfit. I have a job that allows me to wear jeans and quarter-zips so long as they are professional. The Mavi jeans exceeded my expectations as they fit really well, while the pullover was really light-weight; which is what I look for in a long sleeve pullover. The shoes I selected were a bit of a crossover in that I wanted something that looked somewhat athletic (like a normal tennis shoe), but trendy enough to wear for multiple occasions. They fit my narrow feet very well and wearing them all day was no problem at all.
RVCA Dead Flag Floral II Short Sleeve Button-Down Shirt [TTS, wearing in L] / Mavi Jeans Zach Straight Leg Jeans [TTS, wearing in 33×32] / OLUKAI Hokua Flip Flop [TTS]
Went a bit out of my comfort zone with the button down, trying a print shirt. I typically wear a traditional polo (golf shirt), but I wanted something different to try that didn’t make me look and feel like a 65+ year old man (sorry dad, I’m not ready to be a grandpa quite yet). The shirt fit true to size and easily paired with jeans or shorts if the weather is warmer. The sandals I selected were a bit more casual than what I typically wear, and felt decently comfortable but like most shoes/sandals need to be broken in more.
1901 Slim Fit Stripe Short Sleeve Button-Down Shirt [TTS, wearing in L] / Mavi Jeans Zach Straight Leg Jeans [TTS, wearing in 33×32] / ONITSUKA TIGER ‘Serrano’ Sneaker [TTS]
Went with a more classic looking button down with pin-stripes as I wanted to channel the classic Yankees uniform. The shirt was a heavier fabric then I thought it would be, but the fit was good and easily paired with jeans and tennis shoes.
