The Living in Yellow Team is dreaming of the smell of barbecues, outdoor happy hours, and ending the day with a book on our front porches. But we’re not doing it from the great outdoors just yet – we’re dreaming it all up from the comfort of our laptop computers in our PJs [fun fact- as I’m writing this, it’s actually snowing outside]. We all have one space or another outdoors that could use a bit of TLC, whether it’s starting from scratch or just adding in a few pieces to what we already have. And while we can’t see most of the pieces in stores [#Quarantine2020], the online stores’ digital shelves are chocked full of outdoor inspo to get our minds turning with possibilities. Some of us are ready to click add to cart on every single item, while others of us are still working through the details, but we figured creating vision boards was the best way to, well, visualize it! Also, we’ve added some additional items into each of our widgets that we liked as well, in case you want to see a few more ideas we’re looking at! Happy outdoor dreaming!

Every spring I convince myself that I should completely redo our entire patio area, and while every year my husband enforces otherwise, I love daydreaming about what I could do differently with the space. Earlier this year we traveled to Nevis and stopped at the Four Seasons and I instantly fell in love with their retro poolside vibe – between the bright yellow chairs and striped umbrellas, it was a space that made me so happy. That’s the type of space I want to replicate for our patio. I want to infuse pieces that bring a smile to my face, like this yellow chair and ottoman set, striped chaise loungers, and these chic little lady sunbather pillows. Just hand over a fancy cocktail [umbrella included] and I’m ready to soak up all that summer has to offer.
Becca’s Minimalist Outdoor Update
So this winter we neglected to put away our patio furniture…oops! The squirrels got to the cushions in early spring, scratching open the fabric and scampering away with mouthfuls of stuffing. So it’s time that we start thinking about a new set up! I picked out a simple and modern furniture set and pergola which are small enough to fit on our little patio, and completed the look with a cute grey rug, some potted plants on stands, and a hanging solar pendant light.

We are moving in May and one of the areas I am most excited about is our back patio area! My husband and I love being able to enjoy our meals outside and host patio parties! We have a few pieces for furniture but I definitely wanted to spruce things up, add in a dining table, and of course some cute accessories! I went with some pops of color to give the space a little life and also added a Thermacell mosquito repellent device! I am curious to see if it actually works, but the 1,400+ reviews on Amazon gives me some confidence!

Last Fall we started the process of revamping our backyard space. We’ve been enjoying meals at this table on some of the recent warmer days we’ve had. These are many of the items we purchased for our new larger patio, as well as a few other details I’d love to add over the next few months.

Last year, I moved into my first apartment of my own! That being said, I’m working with fairly tiny patio space. I’m a firm believer that a small space shouldn’t compromise style. I snagged this patio set last season and it held up well outside all winter [on a covered porch]. Living near the lake, I needed additional seating for hosting as well as more outdoor storage for allllll the gear. Insert my new storage bench. Functional, practical, sold. Whatever size space you’re working with, I’m here to reassure you that a little TLC can bring any area together. If you assemble it [with or without an instruction manual] they will come. And hopefully enjoy a glass of vino and stay awhile!

We moved into our new, to us, home last year and have been renovating like crazy [inside, outside and everywhere in between]! Now that we have tackled projects we are READY to add some outdoor furniture to our space and host friends and family!! I tend to stick with more neutrals [blacks, tans, whites] and add a little bit of green and color here and there so pieces last and I don’t constantly want something new! Also, WHY is it so hard to just pick one set of furniture when everything is SO stinking cute!

We live at the end of a private lane, so our outdoor space gets very few eyes on it, which is probably why we’ve given it no love until recently. Our front porch has a good amount of space and gets afternoon sunshine, but it needs some furniture and decor to make me want to start spending time out there. I love the modern/traditional blend of these items, which works for our country setting, as well as the simple neutral colors. I like to let my florals do the talking when it comes to outdoor color! Next step: convince the husband to let me paint the front door black 😉
