Indianapolis, IN

Indy! This is a place I called home for two years (my husband and I just recently moved during COVID). Zach started medical school there at Marian University in 2018! I’ll admit, when I first learned that we would be leaving Nashville for Indianapolis I wasn’t 100% sure about it. I had only been to Indy once before, but after some time there it really stole my heart! It’s an amazing city with a lot going on, but a homey feel.

Places to Eat:

The Eagle
This is where I was a server and spent most of my time when I was off the road from shows. Fried chicken is the staple dish, but you can’t go wrong with anything on the menu here. Plus, the staff is pretty awesome (as I mentioned, I used to work here & miss all my co-workers). PRO TIP: get the Mac and Cheese and add fried chicken on top with the signature hot honey. You can thank me (and nap) later 🙂

My fav coffee shops:
Quills Coffee – say hi to Justin! (He’s also a singer/songwriter: Justin Duenne)
Coat Check Coffee
Kaffeine Coffee

Brugge Brasserie
This is a great spot for dinner! Their mussels are amazing, but if you’re not into that kind of thing everything else on the menu is A++ too!

Cafe Patachou
A classic breakfast or lunch spot! Their tag line is “a student union for adults”. The grilled cheese and tomato soup combo is my go to here – YUM!

Sub Zero Ice Cream
Dessert and a science experiment all in one! Pick your ice cream base (they also have dairy free!), flavors, mix in’s, and watch them turn the liquid into ice cream! It’s super fun and tastes AMAZING. My go to order: custard base, white chocolate and cheesecake flavor with reeces!

Sun King Brewing
Indianapolis has a great brewery scene! I’m sad we didn’t get to hop around more of them, but I did always enjoy stopping by Sun King for a brew and hang.

Fire by the Monon
There hasn’t been a meal here I didn’t like! I love the quaint atmosphere. If you’re feel frisky (and very hungry) get the Inferno burger!

Twenty Tap
On the rare occasion we did get to go out to eat, you could 9/10 find us here or thinking about going here. It’s just your cute, go-to neighborhood joint with amazing food! They have a great beer list featuring beer from local breweries. Highly recommend!

Things to Do:

Monon Trail
Take a stroll on the Monon! This trail stretches 27 miles, but my favorite part is through the Broad Ripple neighborhood!

Canal Walk
I love walking around the canal! It’s a beautiful area with a couple spots to stop for a bite or drink!

Monument Circle
The monument is located on Monument Circle in the center of downtown and has come to symbolize the city of Indianapolis and the state of Indiana. You can take the (narrow) staircase up to the top of the monument for no charge, or pay $2 to ride the elevator.

The Children’s Museum of Indianapolis

The Children’s Museum of Indianapolis itself is made up of 500,000 square feet with exhibits and activities that are fun and interesting for the entire family as they explore the physical and natural sciences, history, world cultures and the arts through exciting interactive exhibits on five floors.
