Your Guide to Nashville

March 25, 2020

By:

Katy DuBois

Hi! Katy here. I moved to Nashville, TN when I was 18 years old to pursue my career as a singer/songwriter. I started writing songs when I was 13 and in the summer of 2012 I went to camp called GRAMMY Camp (yes, it sounds fake and YES if you have high school kids interested in any type of career in music they should 1000% apply). My band Maybe April formed at this camp and how ever many years later (wow, time goes fast) we are still making music together! I lived in Nashville for the next six years. It’s a magical city full of dreamers and is such a melting pot of people! It’s changed SO much in the past few years, but it’s still one of my favorite places to be!

In my opinion: pedal taverns can be fun, but if you have the chance to get off the beaten path I don’t think you’ll regret it! There’s so much to do and see in this city. From songwriter clubs to amazing restaurants…you’ll be sure to fall in love with Nashvegas.

These are a few must-sees on my list:

THINGS TO DO

The Listening Room Cafe
The Listening Room is my favorite songwriter club. Catch a songwriter round for a quintessential Nashville experience! Get a VIP experience as you hear stories behind the song, some amazing performers, and enjoy dinner and drink during the show! You never know who could show up here or hop on stage 🙂

Fun fact: I was a server here for four years, I also have played many shows here, and even got married here!

Country Music Hall of Fame
If you’re a country music lover, check out the Country Music Hall of Fame! You’ll see iconic outfits, cars, guitars, and more from your favorite artist’s.

Adventure Science Center
Adventure Science Center is home to hands-on science exhibits for the entire family to enjoy. Great place to go with kids!

Nashville Zoo
The Nashville Zoo at Grassmere is a zoological garden and historic plantation farmhouse located 6 miles southeast of Downtown Nashville.

Centennial Park
An exact replica of The Parthenon! Hang out on the green space or go for a walk in Centennial Park, located in Midtown near Vanderbilt.

FOOD/DRINK/NIGHT LIFE

The Cupcake Collection
My FAVORITE cupcake shop in Nashville! It’s also in the historic “Germantown” neighborhood, which is super cute to stroll.

Martin’s BBQ Joint
This is my favorite BBQ joint in Nashville. There are multiple locations throughout town, but the Belmont location is my favorite to go to!

Rosepepper Cantina
Rosepepper is one of my fav places to go for Mexican in Nash! Plus, their Instagram is hilarious. Grab a house made marg and enjoy – CHEERS!

Hattie B’s Hot Chicken
Nashville hot chicken-it’s a must! You can choose from no-heat to MY MOUTH IS ON FIRE (I stick with mild or medium). There are multiple locations to choose from if the Midtown location is too busy!

Acme Feed & Seed
One of my favorite places on broadway! It has an incredible view and is a fun hang! Acme has 3 levels. Live music on the bottom level, but I recommend going to the rooftop bar for the best view in Nashville! They also have great food.

The Patterson House
This is a trendy place for cocktails in a cool, speakeasy atmosphere. The drinks are on the pricier side, but it’s a very high quality and all about the experience here!

Robert’s Western World
This is one of my other favorite Broadway bars because it’s old school country. If you want a traditional country experience, go to Robert’s!

Pinewood Social
Another trendy spot for craft cocktails! Pinewood also has a bowling alley! Highly recommend the fried broccoli as an appetizer. P.S. ask for Mark at the bar 🙂

Broadway Brewhouse
This is going to have that smokey, dive bar feel but grab a Bushwhacker and let me know what you think! It’s basically a boozy, Wendy’s frostie. There’s a downtown and midtown location!

Five Points Pizza
New York style pizza but probably the best in Music City – stop by for a slice!

Crema
Grab a cup of joe at of my top coffee shops in Nashville!

The Pharmacy
Want an AMAZING burger or beer milkshake? Highly recommend checking out The Pharmacy!

Monells

Monells is a staple for Southern food – served family style! Make a new BFF at your table!

Virago

Think your favorite sushi place but where you’d also go for your anniversary…in LA. Super cool vibes and amazinggggg food.

Coco’s Italian Market

If you’re into authentic Italian food, you will not be disappointed! Play bocci ball while you wait for a table or stroll their artisan market section!

Midtown Bars
Winners and Losers:
These bars are next to each other and usually have live music! It’s a fun hang, lots of Music Industry events are held here from number 1 parties to CMA parties…all the parties.

Red Door
Another fun bar in midtown. You can probably peep some famous country artists hanging her! It’s one of the favorite bars for people in music industry.

The Row
Classic, southern food and HI they have a parking lot! I’ve played many a shows here and always couldn’t wait to eat my meal haha!
