Fall Family Photos

It’s a question we receive constantly at LIY – “What in the world should we wear for family photos!?” As Becca put it last year, family photos can be a headache. You shuffle the schedule 13 times and finally find a one hour time slot where none of your kids have soccer practice or piano lessons, your hubby’s favorite baseball team doesn’t have a “super important” game, you don’t have book club and This is Us is not on tv — only to have to reschedule with your photographer because of inclement weather. And after you have found a new date, made sure everyone in the fam is free, the last thing you really want to think about is what in the world the entire family is going to wear in these photos that you are going to hang on your wall for 10 years and will be sending to everyone and their mother in the form of a Christmas card.

Yikes, we get it. Because it’s such a trouble point for so many of us, we took this problem into our own hands and are offering [many] solutions! In today’s post we have compiled 5 different color schemes for you to choose from — and not only that, but we have provided our own little photos of the LIY team and their adorable families in these color schemes along with additional clothing choices for EVERY member of your family [look for the arrows for even more options!] Hopefully, this will help take a little bit of the guesswork out of family photos so that you can focus on more important things, like what kind of candy would best bribe your toddler to actually smile in the photos. Let’s dive in and see these frame makers…

I was literally at the mall today for six hours shopping for this. Came home with one shirt for me and one shirt for one of my kids. Why is it so hard?!?! ????

  2. Mireille says:

I love these combos! Now for some fall weather!

  3. So cute!! And you described booking family pictures perfectly. Last year we rescheduled for weather, it was ice cold, and we all look like marshmallows in our coats! Love these schemes—I’ve been afraid to mix in prints, but I see it’s totally doable and so cute! PS your hat was amazing, but how did you avoid hat hair later? Jealous!

  4. Charity says:

I love this post SO much!! I’m a crackling campfire girl and I love the sage/thyme! Love it!!!

  5. Kim Busman says:

What am I doing wrong? I have moved my mouse over every picture in this entire post to try to nab the Pinterest thing so that I can “pin” it! Grrrrrr….love this post and want to keep it for reference.

  6. Micki says:

Would love to see another post like this for Holiday pictures. I have a family session scheduled for November on a tree farm. I have one boy and three girls. Please help!
