Gifts In A Jar

December 12, 2012

Per some of your requests, I have decided to share with you the recipes that us ladies used the other night in creating our gifts in a jar. Looking at the picture above, I think it is pretty evident that we are a qualified group of girls to share this information.

One thing before we begin.
Be prepared to have a little bit of a mess on your hands.
Something about dumping cocoa powder into a small hole.
Remember to remove your glittery brand new table runner from Target PRIOR to dumping said hot cocoa. Lesson learned the hard way. Sorry glittery cute table runner.
To prevent such mishaps, use a funnel to filter your ingredients in your jars as seen below..

Thank my genius friend for that idea.

Also, it should be noted that it is a much better idea to line up all of your jars–and do one ingredient in all jars at a time (ie: first layer first in all ten jars, then second layer in all jars, etc).
For some reason I never learned this lesson. Fortunately everybody else in attendance did.

I’m about to drop three different recipes on your asterisks.

Have fun.

First item up–

Peppermint Stick Hot Cocoa
personalized wood labels from Lazables
INGREDIENTS:
Per One Quart Jar
(I bought mine at Hobby Lobby)
1 cup powdered milk
1 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
1 cup granulated sugar
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup miniature chocolate chips
1/2 cup crushed peppermint candy
Preparation:
Layer powdered milk, cocoa powder, sugar, salt, chocolate chips, and peppermint candy.
Fabric and ribbon from Hobby Lobby to pretty em’ all up.
Next recipe to make in these fancy little jars is….
Cranberry Hootycreeks
I recommend making these strictly for name purposes.
What the @!#&@ is a hootycreek?!
I am not sure.
But they look cute.
INGREDIENTS:
Per One Quart Jar
5/8 cup all-purpose flour

1/2 cup rolled oats

1/2 cup all-purpose flour

1/2 teaspoon baking soda

1/2 teaspoon salt

1/3 cup white sugar

1/2 cup dried cranberries

1/2 cup white chocolate chips

1/2 cup chopped pecans

PREPARATION:
Layer the ingredients in a 1 quart or 1 liter jar, in the order listed.

 And last but not least,

M&M//Chocolate Chips Cookies.
 INGREDIENTS:
Per One Quart Jar

1⁄4 cup sugar
1 cup M&M-brand chocolate candies
2 cups sifted flour, all purpose
1⁄2 teaspoon baking soda
3⁄4 cups brown sugar, packed
1⁄4 teaspoon baking powder
1 cup chocolate chips

PREPARATION:
Sift flour before measuring. Mix together flour, soda and baking powder.
Layer flour mixture, brown sugar, granulated sugar and M&Ms-brand candies in jar. Pack firmly.

And no matter what you do–just have fun.
We sure did.

And that’s probably about the last time you will see a DIY/Recipe contribution from yours truly for another year or two. Let’s get back to much more important stuff soon.
Like Jessica Simpson being pregnant.
