Team LIY Takes on Secret Shopping

July 3, 2020

You’re one of two people – you tend to either love or hate surprises. In this case, we all LOVED this surprise, and think if you were in our situation you would too! Let me back up and tell you what we’re talking about here. Recently one of the girls on the team had the idea to do a “secret shopper” where we buy something for another team member and have them style it! Um, yes please! We drew names out of a hat to learn who on the team we were shopping for, and then got to work! We’re so used to shopping for ourselves and knowing what stores, materials, colors, and fits we like, but to think through someone else’s preferences for all of that was a bit of a challenge! But we like a challenge! Check out what each of the ladies received below, as well as how they decided to style it! Do you think their secret shopper nailed their personal style?

Watch our reveal here, where we share these outfits live and find out who shopped for who!

Erin

Sweatshirt [size up if in between, wearing in small] // Similar Jeans [true to size] // Sandals [true to size]

Notes from Erin’s Secret Shopper: Picked out a little something for that #lakelife!

Erin’s thoughts: I was so excited when I received an Anthropologie package in the mail to open it up and find this tie-dye sweatshirt tucked inside! It’s like whoever ordered it for me knew me 😉 I never think to shop at Anthro for clothes so this felt like a special treat. While it is a little on the shorter side, with a slight tuck it felt good on and I’m a sucker for the shades of blue, especially for cooler evenings on the water. She’s a keeper [that is the sweatshirt AND my secret shopper ;)]

Becca

Romper [TTS, wearing XS] // Shoes [TTS]

Notes from Becca’s Secret Shopper: Becca deserves to dress like the queen that she is! This romper stood out to me as something that would make her look just a little “extra” while keeping her in a comfortable color palette of black 😉

Becca’s thoughts: Well, well, well — this romper is equal parts sassy and classy! It keeps things classic while also bringing in fun little elements to make it unique! Hits the nail on the head for my style! This is like the LBD of rompers! I love the belt and the puff sleeves for a little something extra! Thanks, secret shopper — you are my soul sister! Now I just need some place fancy to go!

Steph

Sleeveless Ruffle Blouse [TTS, wearing in M] // Jeans [TTS, wearing in 10] //  Sam Edelman Hazel [TTS]

Notes From Steph’s Secret Shopper: If you know Steph, you know that there aren’t too many colors in her closet, so I wanted to stay true to that while adding a little sass!

Steph’s thoughts: What a fun little surprise in my mailbox! I love that my secret shopper took my love of black and expanded it a bit through print. A top I can wear for work, out to dinner, running errands? SOLD! Thanks friend, this is one I’ll be wearing again and again!

Hannah

Top [size down if in between, wearing in XS] // Jeans [Size up if in between] // Similar Sandals

Notes from Hannah’s Secret Shopper: Hannah LOVES a good flutter sleeve top, so I knew this one was practically calling her name the minute I saw it. I love the eyelet detail and tie-back for a feminine touch!

Hannah’s thoughts: This top is SO me and SO SO fun!!! Loving all the details of this top; the flutter sleeve, eyelet and the tie in the back is so cute! I can’t pass up a good top with statement sleeves! Since this top makes a statement I paired it with my favorite white jeans and a simple pair of ankle strap sandals to keep my bottom half simple! This top did run a little big so I would size down one! My shopper knows me too well ; )

Claire

Dress [size down if in between, wearing in medium] // Wedges [TTS]

Notes from Claire’s Secret Shopper: I chose this dress for Claire because I know she loves a good Summer dress that’s perfect for work and a night out with her friends! It also has a pretty tie waist that will compliment her cute figure!!

Claire’s thoughts: Ooo la la! To be completely transparent, I was slightly petrified to put this dress on my body. It was a bit out of my comfort zone with it’s form-fitting shape, but as my secret shopper knows, I LOVE a good summer dress. After slipping into this little number, I was pleasantly surprised with with the fit and comfort level! I’m loving that it can be dressed up for work or down for play. It does have a bit of extra fabric in the ruching, so I would suggest sizing down if in between!

Cassidy

Blank NYC Denim Skort [TTS, Wearing in size 26] // Crew Neck Tee [TTS, Size XS] // Sole Society Sandals [TTS, Size 7.5]

Notes from Cassidy’s Secret Shopper: I chose this for Cassidy because she is the SKORT QUEEN! High waisted pieces accentuate her waist and show off her pear shape. Can’t wait to see how she styles it!

Cassidy’s thoughts: Okay, if you know me, you know that I am single handedly trying to keep the skort trend ALIVE! That being said, I never would have chosen this skort because I would be afraid that I wouldn’t be able to pull it off! But to my surprise I LOVE it! I have been wearing on repeat already!
