It has been a year for my mom. With my dad’s accident last July, she has been the rock and strength of our family over the past 9 months. While I know it has been exhausting, emotional, stressful and learning curve to navigate a new life with highs and lows, she has continued to be the support and love to those who need her most. When I think about my mom, I think about strength. The woman can handle a lot. I also think about loyalty. Not only did she put 30+ years in the school system as a high school teacher, she is always there for her family when we need her. I know I can rely on my mom when I need something and if there’s ever a challenge I am facing, she is there to listen. She can’t sit still, always has to be doing something [or helping somebody] and has taught me what hard work looks like.
All of this to say, with Mother’s Day rolling around [next weekend, don’t forget friends!] my sister and I wanted to do something a little sweet with her. The most important thing we can give is our time and if there’s anything that we’ve learned since my dad’s accident it is that time is precious, and we need to spend times together whenever we can. My sister and I took my mom out for a Mother’s Day brunch this week for a few hours of just sitting, chatting, laughing and reflecting. I always walk away from my times with my mom and sister feeling so refreshed. There’s nobody who will ever get you like your own family and these two get me.

We went to a local bakery for breakfast [with a few sweet treats thrown into the mix because #celebration] and ate our body weight in macaroons and coffee. We of course had to shower her with a few gifts [thankfully Lord + Taylor has an amazing Mother’s Day Sale happening right now! Take 25% OFF regular priced items, 20% OFF clearance with code MOM until May 12th!] Prior to the brunch I let my mom pick out a few goodies from the sale which she sported to breakfast [she is so that woman who gets something new and then wears it non-stop and I love it]. My favorite — the sandals she picked out. So freaking adorable. Those who wear matching shoe colors stay together….

Of course I had to package up a little somethin’ somethin’ to surprise her with [that’s what all good daughter do, right?] so I went with this Vince Camuto Leila Small Leather Tote because if there is one man I love, it is Vince. Okay and my husband and my father. But Vince, he’s good. Thankfully, my mom agreed….

This Mother’s Day I encourage you if it’s possible to spend time with your mom [or that woman in your life who has been a positive support]. There is no greater time than with those that matter the most. Thank you mom for loving Chelsea, dad and I well and for teaching me what motherhood looks like. I am the luckiest to have you!
