Each season’s changes come with that weird transitional period, where you aren’t sure if you should wear a jacket and jeans for morning, or a tank top and shorts for mid-day [hi, currently in a swimsuit when I was in a sweatshirt this morning]. Each season’s changes also come with the frustration of “well shoot, I just bought that dress for summer, and now I wish I could make it a Fall dress!” I know I’m not alone in this quest to make pieces in my closet transition easily from one season to the next, so today I’m showing you how I’m planning to wear three Summer items this Fall. So if you’ve got a Summer dress, tank top, or lightweight top in your closet, you’re going to want to keep scrolling!
A Dress For Summer
First up, this sleeveless swing dress. One of the biggest benefits to dresses in the summer is that you can just throw them on with a pair of sandals and head out the door! I wanted to be keep up that quick out-the-door mentality for Fall, which is why I’m just adding a layer and swapping out my shoes for something more weather appropriate! This chunky sweater is the perfect weight to tie up and put put over a dress for a quick added layer. The bright color balances out the black and white stripes and adds a fun pop for the season! I topped [or bottomed] it all off a great pair of tall black boots, grabbed a PSL, and am officially ready for Fall.
A Tank Top For Summer
Summer: Striped Slim Fit Rib Racerback Scoop Neck Tank Top [TTS, wearing size small] // Caslon Rolled Denim Boyfriend Shorts // Tory Burch Miller Flip Flop
Fall: Striped Slim Fit Rib Racerback Scoop Neck Tank Top [TTS, wearing size small] // Kut from the Kloth Donna Distressed Ankle Skinny Jeans [TTS, wearing size 2]
// Caslon® Utility Jacket [size down if in between, wearing XS] // Steve Madden Jillian Bootie // Sole Society Destin Hobo 2 Bag // Similar Hats
Next up is a basic tank top! Tanks and shorts are great for Summer, but finding ways to extend our tank-wearing season is key! I thrive on utility jackets come cooler weather, and I’ve found that they’re great for layering over tanks! Utility jackets have a unique style and weight to them that you can wear them as a part of your outfit when you go indoors, or choose to take it off and treat it like an actual jacket! The decision is yours! Swap the denim shorts out for denim pants, and the sandals for a pair of cute booties! Add on a wide brim hat [nothing screams fall like this style of hat!] and a cute bag, and you’re ready for a day at the pumpkin patch!
A Lightweight Top and White Pants for Summer
Fall: Halogen® V-Neck Cap Sleeve Top [size down if in between, wearing XS] // JEN7 by 7 For All Mankind Ankle Skinny Jeans [TTS, wearing size 2] // J.Crew Vanessa sweater-jacket [TTS, wearing size small] // Sam Edelman Hiltin Knee High Boot // Similar Hats
Finally, I’m transitioning my lightweight tops AND yes, my white pants [gasp!] into Fall. I know there’s some old rule about how white pants should only be worn from Memorial Day to Labor Day, but look at me, breaking rules left and right [if you saw this post earlier this week]! White goes great with neutral colors as well as pops of color, all four seasons, so keep those white pants at the top of the jean stack, girlfriend! Lightweight tops are great for going under cardigans and sweaters, because you’re not going to get that bulk that you might get from something thicker! They’re also going to keep you cooler if the sun decides to come out mid-day! Swap out your summer sandals for a pair of knee high boots, and your lightweight summer top just turned into the perfect Fall layering top for a night out with your guy, or a winery trip with girlfriends!
For your Pinning pleasure…
