Rock the Runway in Real Life

July 23, 2019

By:

Raise your hand if you like dressing in head to toe plaid or a giant latex, leopard, onesie. **Crickets** That’s what I thought. We see things on the fashion runways that we probably wouldn’t actually end up wearing in real life. But the runways are a good guide for what’s trending each season, like the plaid and leopard mentioned above! Maybe just not quite as extreme as the high-fashion brands take it.

So today I’m talking about how to rock the runway in real life. Yes, you too can take what you see during fashion week and bring it into your everyday wardrobe! You see things and think “I would never wear that!” But really, maybe you would in fact wear it… just taking a more “everyday woman” approach!

You may have heard of this thing called the “Nordstrom Anniversary Sale,” which is basically like the Super Bowl for shopping enthusiasts like myself! During the one-of-a-kind Anniversary Sale, Nordstrom loads up the site with brand new items and immediately puts them on sale for can’t-miss prices! It happens to be happening now through August 4th, AND that happens to be where everything you see in this post came from! Don’t forget – Nordstrom has free shipping and free returns, so there’s no risk of something not fitting or not loving it! And the card is the key! Become a cardmember this year to make sure you have early access for next year’s Anniversary Sale! Ready to take on the runway in real life? Let’s go!

Dark Romance

Blank NYC Onto the Next Faux Leather Drape Front Jacket [TTS, wearing small] / 1.STATE Trim Camisole [TTS, wearing small] // Kut From The Kloth Donna Ripped High Waist Ankle Skinny Jeans  [TTS] // Ted Baker Izibeli Pump [size up .5]

Leather, lace and florals could scream Valentine’s Day, right? Yes, but there’s no need to wait until February to bust them out! We’ve been seeing lots of black lace, black leather, and dark florals popping up this year for fall, and I’m loving it! It’s a great way to mix dark and edgy with a romantic look, perfect for a date night or a girls night out! I love the drape front style of the leather jacket and am also obsessed with the gold detail on these heels!

At Attention

Caslon Metallic Stitch Utility Jacket [size down if in between, wearing XS] // BP V-Neck Tee [size up if in between] // AG Ex-Boyfriend Relaxed Slim Jeans [size down if in between] // Steve Madden Feather Studded Loafer [TTS]

Next, a trend we’ve been seeing that’s not going anywhere anytime soon – camo! All camo, all the time. Or at least, some camo, all the time! Whether it’s a camo tee, joggers, or a camo jacket like this, incorporating camo into your look in a big way is a good move! Add in a simple white tee, distressed jeans, studded flats, and you’re ready to rock that military style!

Suit Up

Vince Camuto Plaid Blazer [similar] [size down if in between, wearing in XS] // Halogen V-Neck Camisole [true to size, wearing in small] // AG Ex-Boyfriend Relaxed Slim Jeans [size down if in between] // Ted Baker Izibeli Pump [size up .5] // Baublebar Farida Beaded Hoop Earrings

Blazers and suits don’t have to be just for men, and also don’t have to be just for the office! Of course you CAN wear these for the office, but my favorite way to wear them is with a pair of jeans and heels! The heels add a feminine flare to the masculinity of the blazer, balancing everything out perfectly! I love how the threading in this blazer [similar]matches the tank so perfectly! Try taking a traditional officewear item and mixing it with something unexpected in your closet!

Show Your Spots

STS Blue Colbey Leopard Print Denim Jacket [similar] [TTS, wearing small] // BP V-Neck Tee [size up if in between] //  Kut From The Kloth Donna Ripped High Waist Ankle Skinny Jeans  [TTS] // Steve Madden Jillian Bootie [TTS]

My favorite neutral? Leopard. My new favorite way to incorporate it? In mass amounts. I typically incorporate animal print in small amounts, like a belt, a layering top, or a shoe, but now I’m finding myself going bigger. Prime example? This leopard jacket [similar]. I kept the rest of the outfit neutral to keep the animal print the main focus, but I’m starting to think the more animal print the better!
