Since moving to the cabin, we didn’t have any workout equipment here which also means for the past six months of life I have completed zero minutes of physical activity [unless running down to the basement to get a gift bag counts]. After enough convincing to the husband, we got a treadmill at the beginning of January [literally, ordered on New Years Day which is most likely the most cliche thing I’ve ever done] and that’s where my fitness journey starts.
I’m actually one of those weirdos who doesn’t loathe running. Now with that being said, I am not an avid runner [unless you count that one time nine years ago when I ran 700-ish miles in a year which will forever go down in history as the most miles I will ever run in a year] but I do enjoy it when I do it. There’s just something about pounding my feet to the deck that does great things for both my mental state along with my physical state. It’s a time to focus on nothing else exact the task at hand. I love nothing more than putting my headphones in and taking a “break” from the rest of the world.
My goal right now is to log 30 minutes whenever I step foot on the treadmill which has been completed by doing a combination of walking and running [I’m an Enneagram 7, variety is my best friend]. Speaking of being a 7, I also need “things” to excite me enough to keep wanting to workout – insert cute workout wear. I scored all of the items you see in today’s post from Macy’s as they have a TON of reasonably priced workout gear in all of the brands that I love. Bonus: Now through 1/27 you can take 20% off in their Winter Weekend Sale with code WINTER. Carry on now..
Once I finish my cardio, I love to grab either some free weights or use my Gaiam Small Balance Ball for some ab exercises. While I’ve never been one to get super into weightlifting, I do like to try and be a little bit toned and make those muscles strong. Another favorite when it comes to working out? Workout DVDs. Whether it’s Jillian or Autumn, an instructor on the TV telling me what to do is beyond helpful for this girl who 99.9% of the time has no clue what she is doing.
The moral of the story here is that while I may not be doing anything too crazy, I am doing SOMETHING and for right now, that’s all that matters. Working out doesn’t have to be a long interruption to your day and it’s amazing what just 20-30 minutes can do for your calves and your joy. I’m excited to keep challenging myself to make working out a priority as I know I am worth it [and you are too]!
Yikes, I need to work on my form. Another moral of the story: there is always room for improvement, don’t strive for perfection – just strive to be better than you once were. Here’s to a healthier 2019…
Remember to check out Macy’s for all of your healthy habits! Whether it’s workout wear, a new juicer for the kitchen or whatever it may be, Macy’s is here for you and has it on sale [use code WINTER for that extra 20% off!]
