How To Rock a Faux Leather Jacket 3 Ways

October 25, 2018

By:

Erin Schrader

As soon as I put on a faux leather jacket, I instantly think I’m a little bit edgy and a little bit sexy. Are either of these things true? I may never know that answer, but that’s how they make me feel, so let me just say- I love a leather jacket. Why would I want to wear a blazer when I could wear a leather jacket? Why would I want to wear hoodie when I could wear a leather jacket? Why would I want to put anything on except for a leather jacket? You get the drift. You can replace almost any layering piece with a leather jacket to elevate the look of the rest of your outfit.

A leather jacket [faux in my case] is an easy layer to wear through fall and winter. The jacket material usually contrasts the material of your shirt or dress, making it pop and pulling it all together. Plus, leather jackets have been around for many years, so there are a ton of styles, colors, and price points available.

Nordstrom is a one-stop shop not only for finding the perfect leather jacket, but for all the other pieces you need- no matter your style! With free shipping and free returns, you can make sure you find your perfect fit! And if you’re lucky enough to live near a Nordstrom, use BOPUS [Buy Online Pick Up in Store] for same day items! Whether it’s a soccer mom type of Saturday, you’re in a mid-week work-wear funk, or your man’s surprised you with a date night out, a leather jacket may be just what you need, and Nordstrom has you covered. It’s a great way to add warmth without the bulk of a typical cold-weather coat while still looking chic!

Faux Leather on the Soccer Sidelines

First, a faux-leather jacket can be worn for a casual look. By throwing on the jacket over a graphic tee instead of a zip-up hoodie or sweatshirt, it immediately dresses up the look a bit. A little less scrubby, a little more “I thought about my outfit for at least 2 minutes.” And the tee can be anything! While I chose rosé, you may find that your local high school is a more appropriate selection ;). I paired this with jeans and slip-on shoes, but you could just as easily rock the leather jacket and tee with a cute pair of joggers [may I suggest these to you?] and a pair of athletic shoes for the ultimate “pulled-together but still comfy” look.

Leather Jacket > Office Blazer

BB Dakota Gabrielle Faux Leather Asymmetrical Jacket  [size Small] // Gibson Stretch Crepe Split Neck Sleeveless Blouse [wearing size XSmall] // Halogen Ponte Pencil Skirt [wearing size 2] // Sam Edelman Hazel Pointy Toe Pump // SPANX ‘Luxe’ Leg Shaping Tights [wearing size A] // Sole Society Hingi Faux Leather Tote // Necklace

Next, as we make it halfway through the work week and start to feel a little bored with our closet, a leather jacket can pull you out of that mid-week funk right when you need it! We may not think of a leather jacket as office appropriate, but for many office environments, as long as it’s worn over a full office look, I’d say it fits the bill! I chose a pencil skirt, tucked-in tank, tights and heels. It’s so much more fun to throw on a little bit of leather instead of a blazer or cardigan! If you don’t think you could pull off a leather jacket in the office itself, keep it in the car to swap out with your blazer for a quick transition from desk to drinks.

Date Night Leather Jacket

Finally, the day we all dream of- we walk in the door after work and our dear husband says “babe, I got us dinner reservations at that new hotspot restaurant you’ve been wanting to go to.” I’m also assuming that this would include “and I got a babysitter” for many of you. For me, it’s more like “I also fed the dogs.” SWOON. This green dress is one of my FAVORITES and it’s perfect for a date night- it’s so flattering!. But sometimes I want to add another layer- whether it’s for warmth or just to add a little edge to my LGD [little green dress]. Throw on a pair of high heeled booties [these seriously scream date night], grab a glass of wine, and head out for your adults-only evening!

Now head to your closet [or Nordstrom.com] to see what items you can try mixing and matching with a faux leather jacket!

  1. I can’t believe how different it looks styled these ways! I wouldn’t have thought a leather jacket could look super boss in charge, but it so does! And I would feel super cool sporting it on the sidelines or on a date night!
