That “Content” Place In Life…

August 24, 2018

By:

Erin Schrader

It’s actually a subject I’ve been wrestling back and forth in my mind a lot recently – am I content with the way that things are or am I starting to feel like there is something maybe I’m [we’re] missing out on? Sometimes it’s children related [more on this in a little], sometimes it’s travel related [are we taking advantage enough of this time in our lives to be free and just GO], sometimes it’s petty things like house projects, cars, and the latest pair of booties that I’m convinced need to enter my closet. As I’m quickly approaching mid-thirties [yikes, slow down time] I think it’s a natural progression to start to think “okay, what’s next?” and while I think it’s good to think ahead, it’s also good to simply enjoy the present in the now.

I know I’ve mentioned it before, but we’re really trying to put an emphasis on slowing down recently [I may have laughed out loud a little bit when typing that as I’ve been in a mad dash all evening long trying to cross the next thing off my to-do list] and while it is a nice change of pace, it also gets my mind wandering. One question I often get asked is “are you guys ever going to have kids?!” and while my first reaction is to say “what do you mean? we have kids!” [proof below] it dawns on me that most people equate children to humans, not little balls of fluff that bark and require leashes when in public…

The North Face DuoWarmth Pullover Sweatshirt [55% off, size up, wearing in small] // Backcountry Super Stretch Twill Short [30% off, size up one] // Nike Free RN Running Shoe [size up .5] // Shawn: The North Face Mack Ease Full-Zip 2.0 Hoodie [35% off, true to size] // Stoic Ombre Stripe V-Neck T-Shirt [50% off, size up if in between]// RVCA shorts [45% off, true to size] // Nike Free RN Running Shoe [size up .5]

Right now here’s what I know – we are pretty content with the way things are [at least right this second I am, it could change in two minutes ;)]. While I have a huge heart for adoption and can’t wait to bring a child or two in our lives, right now we’re happy with the two that we have. Sure, they may push my patience levels frequently but their bedtime cuddles are legit. Recently Shawn and I took Max and Ollie to a little park to enjoy a quiet gray Saturday morning with fruit in tow [who knew that taking fruit to a local park minutes from your home with two dogs could be a quite relaxing way to start the day?] and it was a good time to catch up and hash out a few of those life things.

While we may not be traveling to the Amalfi Coast [someday], poppin’ out a few kiddos [probably never birthing anything] or adding some red hot convertible to our garage [sorry, Shawn] life as we know it is pretty great as-is, a few extra eye wrinkles and all. Today, I’m simply grateful that I have a human and two fur babies to walk through life together with and watch it unfold..whatever the next thing may be.

[suns out, tongues out]
