We all want to have those cute outfits to wear to the office but then we also want to have those cute outfits to wear on the weekend. While this is great and all, it can also be expensive. Wouldn’t it be nice if we had staple pieces in our closets that could act as both? What you wear on Monday to the boardroom becomes Saturday’s girls night outfit and vice versa. It’s not as hard as you may think.
To help guide you in this “wear to where” experiment, we found three items – one top, one pair of shoes and one skirt that could take you straight from your 9-5 into your weekend. All of the pieces are from Nordstrom as they specialize in a wide range of versatile pieces that can take you to and from any occasion. Seriously, this section of their website is my personal gold mine, I use it for whenever I have a vacation, event or heck, need a new workout outfit to get my sweat on. Add in their free shipping + free returns + unmatched customer service and shopping there is a no-brainer for me. Today I’ll be taking you through these three pieces and showing you a work look and then a weekend look reusing the same piece. Versatility, let’s do this.
First up, we have the top. We went with this Lush Crepe Tee as it’s one of the most versatile pieces on the planet right now I think. While it is available in a few colors, I went with the classic ivory for ultimate wearability. To dress it up for work, I paired it with, you guessed it – yellow pants [because black is so boring ;)] and a classic nude heel.

Now let’s take that same top into a casual Saturday of running errands or brunch with the girls. By simply swapping out the work pants for a cute pair of colored shorts, comfy sandals and your favorite shades, you’re all set. That was easy.

Next item up for business, a pair of shoes that you can justify paying a little more because you will literally wear them EVERYWHERE. I always struggled with paying money for heels that I thought I would only wear at work but when I started buying shoes that I could rock wherever I was, it makes spending an extra dollar that much more justified. Here’s the thing – when thinking about heels for the workplace, you have to keep comfort in mind. Without comfort, nothing productive happens. Sam Edelman has been a tried and true favorite of mine over the years that I can’t recommend more. To make the shoes even more versatile, opt for a nude color which can be paired with nearly anything in your closet! I opted for these Sam Edelman Ariella Ankle Strap Sandals. For the work version, I paired it with this bright pink Felicity & Coco Tie Front Sheath Dress which is super flattering and sure to bring a pop of color to your office.

Now to dress down those heels for your weekend – by swapping out the dress for a cute little tank and white jeans, you’re set and ready to go.

Last but not least, the skirt. We all need a good pencil skirt in our lives when it comes to work, but those pencil skirts shouldn’t get lost in our everyday wear because my word, they can be cute. When I spotted this Halogen Side Tie Pencil Skirt I knew it could be just the ticket for dressing up or down. I love the side tie effect as it is oh so flattering when it comes to making that waist of yours appear smaller than it is [I’m all about that effect]. First up – the skirt at work.

And now for play — take off those heels, replace them with some sandals and a cute cami and wham bam DONE.
