Within the last few months, the Color Wow Dreamcoat hair product has taken the internet [along with the LIY Team] by storm! It felt like we we’re seeing it everywhere lately and had to see what all the excitement was about. If it’s your first time hearing about the product, here’s what you need to know! It’s a heat activated leave-in spray. Its anti-frizz formula waterproofs your hair even in the worst humidity. It leaves hair super glossy, glassy, ultra smooth – feeling like a salon blowout at home!
Several ladies on the LIY Team with different hair types and textures decided to take matters into our own hair to see if we were truly WOW’d by the product and share our true thoughts. Here’s how it went!
Helpful Tips:
- Use a LOT. Like a lot. After towel drying your hair, divide it into sections and spray liberally.
- It’s heat activated, so only use it when blow drying your hair. If you let your hair air dry, it may end up looking greasy and lacking results.
- Apply tension by using a round brush or vented brush while drying. We love this one!
- Use once every 3-4 washes. The product lasts several washes, so overuse can cause build up. The brand recommends using it every 3-4 shampoos!

After first use, I did notice a big difference in how soft my hair felt overall and how smooth it was! My girlfriends sold me on it after saying that using this product has similar results to how they feel after they get a blowout. I can see why. I will say, being in the Florida heat and humidity, my hair did withhold pretty well thanks to this product [no noticeable frizz!]
Overall thoughts: I do believe it works [however, I am surprised by how much you’re supposed to use to see good results!] but will most likely use it 1x per week to avoid it building up too much and causing my hair to feel too heavy!
Would you purchase it? Am I glad that I purchased it to try it? Absolutely. Do I feel like it’s life-changing enough to continue to purchase over and over again? Maybe not.

I do feel like it smooths my hair some and in general makes it lay nicer. I do not notice a real difference in shine or glossiness. The first time I used it, I thought it smelled like cheap drugstore hair products I used in high school and thought were fancy. The second time I used it I didn’t notice a smell either way.
Overall thoughts: I’m not WOW’d, but I’ll keep using it for now.
Would you purchase it? Maybe, I need to give it more time to decide if I would repurchase, but I’m not throwing away the one I have.

My hair stylist got me hooked on this product at the salon! It left my hair smooth, shiny, soft, and felt like a fresh blowout! It has a very light, clean scent that I don’t really notice after drying. My hair tends to tangle easily, so I was most excited to be able to run my fingers through my hair without getting caught. It also gets oily pretty quickly, but this spray is very lightweight – even after dousing my hair in it!
Overall thoughts: I recommended it to several girls on the LIY Team after trying! It worked well for me, but may not have the same results for every hair type.
Would you purchase it? I did! Since then, I’ve also tried the Money Mist from the same brand and have been using it between Colorwow Dreamcoat uses. It’s a leave-in conditioner that detangles with built-in heat protection that reduces breakage, strengthens strands, moisturizes & defrizzes for smooth, silky texture! If you’ve tried the Dreamcoat and didn’t love it, give the Money Mis a try!

The first thing I noticed with this product was the frizz and flyaway control! I have lots of baby hairs that tend to have a mind of their own but this product definitely tamed them! The product went on easy and gave my hair a certain lightness. That being said, I did notice my hair was greasier than normal the next day. I don’t use a lot of product in my hair, so it may just take some getting used to! I do think my hair looked glossier than usual and it really helped me achieve that “fresh blow out” look!
Overall thoughts: It’s nice to use if you’re struggling with flyaways or frizz. Is it groundbreaking or life-changing? Not for me, but could be for you!
Would you purchase it? I think this product is great to have/use when I have big or important events that I am getting all dolled up for! I would assume by only using it for special occasions it would last for a long time and I would probably repurchase after it runs out!
