Team LIY

Dry, bleached, heat damaged hair… whatever your hair concern – we’ve all been there. If you dye your hair or use any sort of hot tools, your locks miiight be in need of a little TLC. And even if you don’t process your mane or use heat on it (you go girl!) you could still be experiencing dryness, frizz, or split ends depending on the season, the water you wash it with, and just your natural hair type in general! While hair concerns are nearly unavoidable, there is good news. There are literal hundreds of hair masks on the market to help meet your hair needs! And that’s where LIY comes in.

With so many masks on the market, it can be slightly overwhelming to find the right one for you. But never fear, LIY is here! We rounded up three LIY ladies (meet them all here!) with different hair textures and concerns to test several of the most popular hair masks on the market in hopes of finding the best of the best! The ladies each tested out three hair masks selected specifically for their individual hair textures and concerns and today, we’re sharing the results! Say sayonara to dry, damaged, frizzy hair and hello to great hair days ahead!

Masks for Dry, Heat Damaged, Color Damaged Hair

Overall Favorite

Moroccanoil Intense Hydrating Mask

I am obsessed with the Moroccanoil scent! All day long I would get whiffs of it and it made me happy every time! You just simply apply a generous amount on damp hair and let it work its magic for 5-7minutes! Then rinse and you’re good to go! I typically used my 5-10 minutes to get a good leg shave in. 😉 My hair was significantly softer and smoother on days when I used this hair mask!

Best Budget Friendly

Garnier Fructis 1 Minute Nourishing Hair Mask

I was shocked, but I loved this mask! I felt like my hair looked so shiny after using this! I also noticed that I didn’t have many flyaways or frizz, it looked pretty smooth. I loved that you only had to have it on for one minute which made the process the quickest of all of the masks! You could also opt to use this one for your normal conditioner or as a leave in conditioner. I used it only as a traditional mask but I was impressed! The scent was nice – it was fruity [think guava] but not too overwhelming. An unexpected win!

Not Worth the Money

Briogeo Don’t Despair, Repair!

This one was just okay for me! My hair felt somewhat softer but overall I didn’t notice any big changes to my hair. It was a nice, light scent! Nothing over-powering, but I would actually prefer a little more scent. I felt like I noticed the least amount of difference on my hair after using this product. For the price, it wouldn’t be my first pick!

Masks for Thick, Curly Hair Types

Ashley: Very Thick, Curly Hair

Worth the Money

Kerastase Curl Manifesto Nourishing Mask

I love this product! My hair was extremely soft after using. It has a great slip factor and I could detangle with my fingers very easily shortly after applying. It smells amazing – Moroccan with notes of honey! It left my hair feeling sooo soft and shiny! It is on the pricier end, but I would absolutely use it again.

A Pleasant Surprise

Briogeo Curl Charisma

This is an awesome mask. It did make my hair very soft and easy to comb. The scent was kinda strong at first (lightly fruity!). It did leave my hair feeling super soft and bouncy. It performed just as good as the more expensive product to be honest. I’m a fan!

Best Budget Friendly

SheaMoisture Curl & Shine Hair Masque

This one was thicker and heavier than the others, but I don’t feel that it weighs my hair down afterwards. I could start to detangle with my fingers easily. It smells very good, coconutty! For the price, I think this compares well to the others & is a great value!

Masks for Frizzy, Coarse, Color Damaged Hair

Debbie: Dry, Coarse, Bleached, Heat Damaged Hai

Favorite + Best Drugstore Brand

Maui Moisture Heal & Hydrate + Shea

This one is my favorite because I feel like it made my hair the smoothest and I also like that I can use it as a leave-in conditioner! My hair turned out the best with this one. Very smooth. It said you could also use as a leave-in conditioner so I did that too & loved the results! Plus it’s my favorite scent, coconut!

Not Worth the Money

Briogeo Be Gentle, Be Kind

This was on the thicker side which I like and feel like I need for my coarse hair. It smells fruity which I liked, but I think my hair turned out about like it usually does when I use my regular conditioner. Overall, it was just okay – I really didn’t notice a big difference in my hair.

Not Worth the Hype

Olaplex No. 8 Intense Moisture Mask

I honestly thought this would be my favorite hair mask because I’ve always heard such good things about it! This wasn’t as thick as the other two brands I tried out and was a little more lightweight. I feel like my hair turned out really good after using this! I noticed that it was a lot smoother than usual. But even though it did make my hair really soft, I don’t think it made as much of a difference as the Maui Moisture did.
