Help us Support Ronald McDonald House Charities

September 30, 2021

If you follow along on social media, you may have seen that the Living In Yellow team has committed to supporting Ronald McDonald House Charities (RMHC) through fundraising!

If you aren’t familiar with Ronald McDonald House, their mission is to provide a home away from home for families of children 21 and younger who are hospitalized either due to sickness or injury. The stories we have heard and learned about from families who have benefitted from this have tugged on our hearts in a big way and we want to help make a difference so that even more families can experience the comforts of “home” while dealing with something no family should have to. Several years ago my niece was in the hospital and my sister and brother-in-law got to stay in the Ronald McDonald House – she was telling me the other day just how much having a warm shower meant to them at that time.

We have several ways that we’re fundraising right now and wanted to share them with you in case you’d like to help us support RMHC!

Here’s How Far Each Dollars Goes

  • $5 provides a cup of coffee and grab and go breakfast for a tired parent.
  • $10 ensures that a parent has essential toiletries during an average stay including something as simple as a toothbrush
  • $25 offers a family a welcome bag full of comfort and convenience items
  • $50 you fund a day of home-cooked meals for a child’s parents.
  • $135 covers the cost of a family’s one-night stay.
  • $250 provides a family’s weekend stay with all of the home away from home amenities.
  • $500 supports the development of new programming to comfort families during their stay.
  • $1340 sponsors the average length of stay for a family, which is currently 10 nights.

If you’d like to provide one of these for families staying at RMHC, you can donate here.

Kilts for Kids Event

Each year, our local Ronald McDonald House Charity of Michiana hosts several events to raise money. For the first time, the Living In Yellow team is participating in the annual Kilts for Kids event, as team Dressed to Kilt! We’re competing against 8 other local businesses to try to raise the most money for this organization. In one short week we will see who the final winner is!

No matter how we’re raising money [clothing sale, cookbook, auction, etc], the funds are all ending up here [you can see where we stand currently and learn more about the event!].

LIY Community Cookbook

We are so excited to introduce the LIY Comforts of Home Cookbook – a cookbook full of recipes contributed by the LIY Community. All proceeds from this e-cookbook [only $5!] are going to Ronald McDonald House Charities!

LIY Clothing Sale

Each year LIY has a clothing sale, cleaning out our closets of gently used and even brand new items! This year’s sale was a huge success, and all proceeds were donated to either Ronald McDonald House Charities or Soup of Success, another fantastic local organization that we support! We were able to raise over $16,000 through the event, and meet so many of you in real life!

If you missed out on this year’s clothing sale, don’t worry – we held some items back! We’re actually going to be auctioning off some additional items, as well as several items donated by brands that we partner with! Stay tuned for more details, but save the date for October 5th at 7pm!

LIY Community Video

As we’ve been sharing about our fundraising efforts on social media, we’ve been overwhelmed by the number of you that are reaching out sharing your stories with us about how RMHC played a role in your lives. We wanted to share some of the stories and photos with you as well.

If you feel compelled to donate to RMHC, you can do so here.

Thank you so much for considering donating to Ronald McDonald House Charities.
