Sweet sweet Southern California, how I love thee. Shawn and I got back this week after spending a week away at one of our favorite US destination spots and while I could have done without the glamorous cold that I got the minute we landed, it was still a great time of relaxation, sunshine and a cocktail or two around the pool. Due to said cold, we didn’t go out and about as much as I was planning on, however, we still had some fun afternoons and evenings exploring little beach towns [San Clemente, Carlsbad and Laguna being some of our personal faves] or the resort which was like a city in itself.

Southern California can always be a little tricky to pack for this time of year as the days can get hot and the evenings can quickly cool off. Going from a swimsuit during the day to a sweater at night wasn’t abnormal for us on this trip and thankfully, I packed appropriately [and by appropriately I mean in excess, 100 pounds of luggage to be exact….oops]. Before departing I went to one of my favorite online retailers for all outdoor exploring purposes, Backcountry, to find some cute fall apparel and my favorite category of all, footwear. A girl has to have some [cute] comfortable shoes while traveling, amen? Backcountry carries so many brands that I love and trust [Sorel, Patagonia, and many more!] so it was a no brainer to stock up there! You may remember how I had the same logic for our Iceland trip which you can see here!  Use code YELLOW15 for 15% off your first order at Backcountry.com (exclusions apply).

On our last night there, we decided to do a little sunset walk [there are truly no better sunsets than Southern California sunsets] and enjoy taking in all of the sights while getting a little [little] exercise in before partaking in one last California dinner. Sunset and dinner, my two favorite parts of every day.

I can’t tell you just how comfortable and perfect these Sorel Cate Cut Out Boots were for the festivities. Whether you’re traveling this fall or staying put and exploring your own local area, these are a must. You can walk for miles in comfort while still looking put together and that my friends is a win.

Another must-have when it comes to travel and exploring, a hands free bag! Who wants to hold a handbag when you can be holding chocolate covered bananas [a Balboa Island must]! Exactly. The banana wins.

Long story short, I’ll always be so grateful for our travels and time away spent exploring new areas, especially areas that are full of palm trees and ocean views. If you haven’t ever been to Southern California please do yourself a favor and go [and then take me with you]. Wherever your fall takes you, may you go in style, comfort and warmth…

Until next time California…..

I found myself with a quiet house this morning for the first time in over a week. I love nothing more than having everyone home together, but my soul needs time alone too. As soon as everyone was off to school, the silence was quickly filled with the rumblings of my not-yet-fed stomach which got […]
