Men’s Essentials for Fall

For some ODD reason, Shawn doesn’t tend to buy quite as many clothes as I do [weird how that works, huh ladies?], as he’s all about only grabbing the essentials to get him through that season. Something about “we should stick to a budget” or something… I don’t know. Anyways, Shawn was recently looking to add a few new items to his closet and asked for my input. When it comes to fall fashion, sometimes all I think about are leggings, scarves, booties, and vests. I don’t necessarily think Shawn would appreciate me trying to dress him in leggings, scarves, booties, or vests. Okay, vests would probably be the exception, but I’m not going to push my luck.

I’ve handed over the reins to the good folks at Nordstrom for his fall essentials. I fully trust the products at Nordstrom to keep Shawn looking stylish and wearing clothes he’s comfortable in for fall! The 1901 brand at Nordstrom is SO GOOD and Shawn leans towards that brand quite often these days! It consists of not only casual, everyday apparel, but also clothes and shoes that could be worn to the office with an on-trend vibe to them! Some of his other favorite brands at Nordstrom are Topman, Nordstrom, and J.Crew. And don’t forget- Nordstrom has free shipping and free returns on ALL orders, so if something doesn’t fit or you don’t love it, returns are a breeze!

If your husband is like mine, and wants to stick to just the essentials for fall fashion, these are Shawn’s suggestions: plaid, a good pair of shoes, and comfortable layers [maybe I’ll get that vest in there after all!].

1. Plaid

First up on the men’s fall essentials list is plaid. Is there any pattern that screams fall more than plaid? Unless we had a shirt with leaves all over it [which I don’t foresee Shawn wearing], I think not. A plaid shirt can easily be thrown on with a pair of jeans for a date night, a pair of khakis for work, or under a jacket, blazer, or vest for extra warmth! One huge pro of a plaid shirt is that there are a million color combinations out there, so if your husband is set on a navy, gold, and green combination [Go Notre Dame!], I can almost guarantee there will be a plaid shirt out there in his colors. I happen to think this red and blue plaid is quite cute on Shawn 😉  Plus, if you choose a flannel plaid shirt, whoa baby, bring on the cuddles!

2. A Good Pair of Shoes

Next up, Shawn suggests a good pair of shoes. Having a pair of shoes in your closet that you know you can wear comfortably all day, and that will also go with multiple outfits is key. These blue-grey leather shoes add just enough pop to the outfit without being overwhelming, and could be dressed up or down. Shawn spends a lot of time on his feet throughout the day, so for him comfort is key. The smart-arch support in these G.H. Bass Derby shoes provide just that comfort that he was looking for, without sacrificing office-approved style.

3. Comfortable Layers

And finally, Shawn lives in comfortable layers. With Indiana weather, the mornings and evenings can be in the 40s, and then by 3pm it may be 75 degrees. Rather than sit at home and wait for that 75 degree temp to hit, Shawn throws on layering pieces that can be transitioned throughout the day, while still looking put together. One of his favorite combinations is a button up shirt with a hooded zip up sweatshirt. In this instance, he chose coordinating grey and white pieces, but the combinations are endless! Topping it off with a cute pup is optional!

Hopefully Shawn’s recommendations for fall essentials for men will help your hubby get his fall wardrobe in order too! A few basic pieces can go a long way!
