New Arrivals Hits & Misses [AMAZON, WALMART, J.CREW FACTORY AND MORE!]

September 1, 2018

It’s always fun when a new idea comes to fruition, we execute on it and then you respond with “yay! love this!” type of comments. As we switch gears from bringing you our old fashioned weekly roundups to these new arrivals hits & misses, it’s been so fun to receive your feedback on our little blog post shakeup. We’ve got a fresh round of new arrivals to bring you in this weeks hits and misses post and thanks to that holiday we all love [Labor Day] many of the items being featured are currently on sale. Speaking of, don’t let any of these crazy deals pass you by before the holiday is over [believe me when I say there is A LOT]. This week I’m excited to bring you more Amazon finds, items from Walmart [they are making a serious comeback] and a recent favorite, J.Crew Factory!

Before we dive in, let’s get the logistics out of the way to make this process easier on you! For sizing reference, I am 5’4, 125 lbs on a good day, typically a 2 in tops/dresses and 26 in jeans/pants with a preferred inseam of 26-28 inches. Bra size is 30DDD [I get it from my momma]. Hopefully, this helps when determining what size you’d need. Also, feel free to follow along here for daily outfits and check out this Pinterest board where you can also get some ideas! Which reminds me, you can pin any of these looks below to save for future reference! Simply click on the links below and you will be taken directly to the retailer where you can shop! Alright, fellow “I like to get dressed” friends, let’s begin!

ps. You can see ALL previous hits & misses blog posts in one easy spot now!

Amazon

This was my second time shopping Amazon fashion as I’ve always been a little bit hesitant and afraid of what the quality and fit of the items would be. After round one, I wanted to go back for more because I’m learning that the more brands you try, the quicker you will learn which products are good quality and worth purchasing more of. The prices on Amazon are awesome and thanks to Prime the shipping is FAST and FREE and thanks again to Prime, returns are super simple and free as well! I’m excited to keep ordering from Amazon to see which items make the cut and which don’t. Here’s this weeks lineup:

HIT: BTFBM Women Long Sleeve Zipper Sherpa Sweatshirt [$23]

pullover [size up if in between, wearing in small in grey] // jeans [size down one] // booties [true to size]

VERDICT: If there is one thing that this pullover is, it’s soft. I love that the inside is the same material as the outside which makes it super cozy and the fact that it has pockets makes it a double win in my book. While it isn’t a super heavy material, for $23 I would buy another one.

FIT TIPS: I found this top to run a little on the small size. I would encourage you to size up if in between for a more relaxed fit. I am wearing here in a size small.

HIT: Astylish Casual Plaid Top [$20]

top [true to size, wearing in small] // jeans [40% off, true to size] // flats [true to size]

VERDICT: This is probably my favorite Amazon purchase so far. I received so many compliments when I wore this and for $19.99 the quality feels pretty good. The tie sleeves never came undone during the day which was nice, however, I will warn you that you will most likely want to wear a cami under this top as the button closure can come undone during the day.

FIT TIPS: I found this top very true to size and I liked the overall fit and cut of it. Bonus: the button wrap closure makes this top nursing friendly for all of you new mamas!

MISS: Dearlove Dolman Sleeve Open Front Cardigan [$29]

cardigan [true to size, wearing in small] // cami [on sale! true to size, wearing in 2] // jeans [size down one] // booties [true to size] // necklace

VERDICT: Annnd, maybe one of my least favorite purchases from Amazon ever. The quality felt pretty bad [think rough and stiff] and the fit was just off. Please don’t buy.

FIT TIPS: Save yourself the money and don’t order, BUT if you insist on trying it, size down if in between.

MISS: Famulily Asymmetrical Snap Neck Fleece Pullover [$24]

pullover [size up if in between, wearing in small] //  jeans [size down one] // booties [true to size]

VERDICT: This is the dupe [save] version of the oh so popular Abercrombie and Fitch pullover that I am obsessed with [bonus: it’s currently on sale] and this one doesn’t compare to it in the slightest. I could tell a BIG difference in quality and didn’t like how this fit on me. I would spend the extra $20 and buy this one over and over and over again.

FIT TIPS: Size up if in between, wearing in small and it was still a little tight. If ordering the Abercrombie version, size up if in between as well. I wear it in small.

Abercrombie and Fitch

Abercrombie and Fitch is a retailer that I started shopping again recently [after my glory days of high school ;)] They have done an awesome job of rebranding themselves and no longer appeal to just teeny boppers who love to wear short shorts and massive loads of cologne. I have been so impressed with the quality of the items I’ve purchased from there and 99% of the time feel that the cuts are flattering and age appropriate. If you haven’t shopped there in the past 20 years, it may be time to try it again! Insider tip: they often run massive sales so if you see something you love and it’s not on sale, give it a week or two and you may get lucky! Right now EVERYTHING is 40% off so it’s a great time to stock up!

HIT: Trench Coat – 40% off!

coat [true to size, wearing in small] // jeans [50% off, size up one if in between] // booties [50% off, true to size]

VERDICT: I’ve been looking for a trench coat that I actually love and I think this one may just be the one! Instead of going with the traditional khaki, I made things a little more fun and interesting with this coral color which I really love. It feels great on and for under $100 right now, I would totally recommend it!

FIT TIPS: I found this true to size and am wearing in a small. If you teeter between sizes, I would go down rather than up.

HIT: Pullover Zipper Crew Sweater – 40% off

pullover [true to size, wearing in small] // jeans [25% off, true to size, wearing in short for 5’4] // booties [40% off, true to size]

VERDICT: Absolutely love. It fits great, isn’t boxy and the zipper detail adds just the right amount of fun to step it up a notch. At 40% off, I’m considering some of the solid colors as they could also make for great layering options with either a plaid top underneath or a with a vest over top!

FIT TIPS: I found this true to size and am wearing in a small.

HIT: Button-Back Pullover – 40% off!

pullover [true to size, wearing in small] // jeans [50% off, size up one if in between] // booties [50% off, true to size]

VERDICT: Another win for the week! I am always a fan of tops when they have an element of surprise in the back and this sweater brings that. Between the asymmetrical cut and buttons, it’s a fun and flattering way to show off your backside. If you wear the sweater with high waisted jeans, you can get away without having a cami underneath, however, if you want to be sure no back is showing I would throw on a cute little tank and call it a day!

FIT TIPS: I found this true to size and am wearing in a small. If you feel like it is boxy, I would suggest tucking it in a little in the front and that will take care of the situation quickly!

Walmart

The last time I shopped Walmart fashion was never if we’re being honest. It’s never been a retailer that has been on my radar..until now. Walmart is currently under going a rebranding it feels and are working on hard on bringing in brands that are more relevant, better quality yet awesome prices. Their new brand, Time & Tru, has been quite impressive and I’m excited to try even more products from them!

HIT: Autumn Zip Vest Coat [$23]

vest [true to size, wearing in small in dark blue] // plaid top [40% off, true to size, wearing in small] // jeans [size up one] // booties [true to size]

VERDICT: I was pleasantly surprised with this utility vest overall. I love the gold detail on the buttons and the quality feels pretty good. It’s a vest I could see myself getting a lot of use out of and with the different color options, it’s a great staple to stock up on at this price!

FIT TIPS: I found this true to size and am wearing in a small. If you are on the taller side, I would suggest staying away from this vest as it does run a little short.

HIT: Time and Tru Booties [$20]

booties [true to size] // similar options

VERDICT: Oh my word, biggest surprise of the week. When I got these Vince Camuto lookalikes in the mail, I thought there was no way I was going to think they felt good on my feet once I put them on knowing they were under $20, but they proved me wrong. While they are currently out of stock, I wanted to show them because Time & Tru has other styles also under $20 that I would try knowing these worked so well!

FIT TIPS: I am wearing in my normal size, however, you may want to size up .5 if worn with socks.

MISS: Time & Tru Super Skinny Jeans [$17]

jeans [size up one] // booties [true to size]

VERDICT: The biggest reason I am deeming this a miss is because I simply don’t have the correct size in them that I would need. While I ordered my normal size, it was evident that these ran small when just pulling them out of the box. This could  be due to their “super skinny” style. However, the jeans as a whole felt like great quality and were very comfortable on [once I got them to button and zip]! For $17 I would absolutely reorder but try a size up!

FIT TIPS: These run QUITE small. I would absolutely size up one and if you have muscular calves, you may want to avoid this super skinny fit because they were difficult to get over that part of my body!

J.Crew Factory

J.Crew Factory is a retailer that I just started shopping online this summer and I am HOOKED. The prices that you can get on high quality items is insane and the fit of nearly everything I have ordered has been spot on. I love their classic yet updated pieces and know that I can always turn to them for fancier every day looks. One thing to note is that I have found their items to appear quite boxy on the photos they use on the website but when trying them on in person, they aren’t so much that way. Additional bonus – they often run sales on top of sales!

HIT: Lace T-Shirt – on sale!

top [true to size, wearing in 2] // jeans [40% off, true to size, wearing in petite for 5’4] // booties [40% off, true to size]

VERDICT: 100% yes. The minute I tried this on I knew it was going to be a keeper. The top is lined and the lace detail is beautiful. I love all of the colors that it comes in, but this lavender is especially pretty for all seasons [next on my list is the olive]! Whether you wear it with jeans or work pants, you can get a lot of use out of this top!

FIT TIPS: I find this true to size and am wearing in small.

HIT: Scalloped Cami Top – on sale + EXTRA sale!

cami [extra 20% off w/code SALEAWAY, true to size, wearing in 2] // utility jacket [size down, wearing in XS] // jeans [40% off, true to size, wearing in petite for 5’4] // wedges [size up .5] // necklace

VERDICT: This could be my favorite “hit” out of this entire blog post. I had seen several people wearing this scalloped cami and always thought it was adorable so I knew my time to try it was now. I love anything with scallops! This cami is not sheer at all and is the perfect layering piece for fall. Several colors available [I want them ALL]!

FIT TIPS: I find this true to size and am wearing in a 2, however, if you are extra busty, I would size up one. Another thing to note – the straps are adjustable so you can control how long or short this is.

HIT: Ruffle Sleeve Dress [$25]

dress [size down if between, wearing in XS] // necklace // heels [true to size]

VERDICT: If you are in need of a dress for a) work b) an event c) vacation d) all of the above – this $25 option is perfect! It is a nice thicker material so it doesn’t feel thin and cheap. I love the ruffle sleeve detail and the fact that it has sleeves altogether! Three colors available and an easy closet staple to add to your wardrobe rotation!

FIT TIPS: This dress does run a little large. If in between, I would size down as I am wearing here in XS. The length is perfect if you would wish to wear this to work!

And that my friends completes hits & misses round two! Hopefully this post was a teeny bit helpful in navigating the new things on the internet and which items are worth hitting that “add to cart” button. Until next week….
