I’m officially three weeks into working out now which is a statement I never thought I’d say. I’ve been known to run on some random Tuesday and then not touch a treadmill or weights again until 9 months and three days later. Consistency isn’t really my thing. Until now [fingers crossed]. Over the past few weeks, I have gotten into a routine of setting my alarm an hour or so earlier than normal, throwing on my workout wear and getting in an awesome sweat session all before 8 am. How do I do it you ask? Well, it’s all because of my friend. Without her and the accountability of somebody to workout with, none of it would happen. Having somebody who I know is counting on me to show up every day, makes me show up every day. Cramps, tired, who cares – she’s there and so I’m there.
Thankfully she has been working out for awhile [those leg muscles though] which makes my life a heck of a lot easier. Our typical workouts go something like this – I show up, ask her what we are doing and then she instructs from there. We start on the treadmill or elliptical and warm-up for 15 minutes or so and then proceed to do a targeted workout that we usually find on Instagram thanks to fitness bloggers [favorites being her, her and them] who post their routines. One day its arms, another its legs, shoulders and back, cardio and the list goes on. I love that our workouts never get boring because they are different every day and actually keeps me excited to go back the next day. Well, that and the cute workout wear. I have found Nike activewear and shoes to be my go-to when it comes to pieces that will last for a while, look great on and are super comfortable and supportive for whatever the workout brings. If you have been wrestling with the idea of working out in the new year but don’t have the gumption to get started, find a friend. I am telling you – it has been a GAME CHANGER in accomplishing my fitness goals. Like I mentioned, it not only makes you show up way more often than you would on your own [I blame my warm bed in the middle of winter, gets me every time] but it makes for a more enjoyable workout once you are at the gym, or wherever you choose to get your workout in. While it’s been a tiring three weeks, it’s been three weeks of pushing myself, stepping out of my comfort zone, moving my muscles in new ways and fortunately, I’m starting to see results one bicep curl at a time. Who’s ready to make 2018 the year of a healthier body, mind and overall well-being? I know I am…
