What To Wear On Thanksgiving

October 30, 2017

We are literally right around the corner from Thanksgiving which is both crazy and exciting to think about. Exciting mostly because of things like mashed potatoes, stuffing and more mashed potatoes. Have I ever mentioned I like carbs? A question we’ve been getting asked recently is what to wear around the holidays – should we be dressy, casual, in leggings, not in leggings and to all of that I say, YES, ABSOLUTELY BE IN LEGGINGS and well, I’ll leave the rest up to you.

I thought it would be fun to put together some ideas for outfits to wear this Thanksgiving ranging from dressy [for those of you who actually do things other than lay on a couch all day at your parent’s house] to casual for you know, those of us who do lay on a couch all day at our parents house. All of the outfits shown here are from Bloomingdale’s which makes it super easy to buy an entire look or simply a piece or two from a few different outfits! I’ll be sure to highlight my very favorite items as we go that I’m deeming an absolute must-have for all fall and winter long! One thing to remember, if you sign up to be a loyallist member at Bloomingdale’s [it’s completely free!] you get both free shipping and free returns! Alright, let’s get this Thanksgiving outfit party started!

First up, we’ll start with the look featured above. A chunky cardigan that you can wrap up and cuddle in all afternoon long, immediately following the turkey feast you indulged in. Living somewhere that chooses to torture us all winter long, chunky warm sweaters are crucial. I absolutely love the texture of this baby! If there was ever a time for an item to scream cozy, it is now with this. To make the look more casual, I would swap out the heels for a pair of booties or riding boots and call it done! AQUA Shawl Collar Cardigan [true to size, wearing in XS] // Splendid Scoop Neck Tee [true to size, wearing in small] //  AG Legging Ankle Jeans with Raw Hem in 7 Years Break [true to size] // Sam Edelman Hazel Pumps

Next, we’ll get a little dressier with things. It is rare that I get dressed up for Thanksgiving, however, in the past few years we have gone out to dinner to a fancy little Country Club a time or two where I felt like maybe something other than a baggy sweatshirt and lounge pants was probably a good idea. However, just because you may go the dressy route does not mean [and I repeat does not mean] that you have to be in something uncomfortable. I would go the flowier dress route so that you can eat as much as you please and still look put together. Sucking in on Thanksgiving is like getting pooped on by a bird right after putting on a cute outfit. Nobody wants to deal with that. I found two that were both flowy and an appropriate length for being around family! You may or may not choose to wear them with the Spanx Faux Leather Leggings but whatever you do, you should most definitely invest in those babies because wow, butter. CeCe by Cynthia Steffe Madeline Pleated Dress [true to size, wearing in 2] // Spanx Faux Leather Leggings [true to size, wearing in small] // Sam Edelman Hazel Pumps1.STATE Bell Sleeve Swing Dress [true to size, wearing in small] // Sam Edelman Hazel Pumps

Time to take things down a notch. Sorry dresses, you had your time to shine – bring on the ponchos. These are probably my most favorite thing to wear on Thanksgiving because hello, all of the room in the world and two because you don’t even need a blanket when it’s time to lay down. AQUA Rib Turtleneck Poncho [one size] // Splendid Scoop Neck Tee [true to size, wearing in small] // AG Legging Ankle Jeans with Raw Hem in 7 Years Break [true to size] // similar: Frye Women’s Melissa Button 2 Leather Tall Boots

Last but not least, if you’re somewhere on the in-between spectrum for dressy and casual when it comes to Thanksgiving, the best route to go [in my personal opinion] is with a cute tunic-length sweater with the most comfortable high waist leggings on the planet. The best part about high waist leggings? They keep it a secret that you ate four slices of pumpkin pie. This is exactly how I dress, more times than not during festivities over the holiday season. It’s cute, yet it’s super comfortable which equals the best of both worlds. Can we actually talk about these  Spanx Faux Leather Leggings for a minute though, because holy cow, they are good. I waited and waited to order these but then my best friend convinced me that they are a must so I bit the bullet and man, am I ever glad that I did! These are SO comfortable, breathable and super sexy while also giving you the option to be casual with them as well. I think these are worth every dollar and I know I will get a ton of use out of them! Anyhow, back to the outfits. Sanctuary Gillian Split-Sleeve Sweater [true to size, wearing in XS] // Spanx Faux Leather Leggings [true to size, wearing in small] // Sam Edelman Hazel Pumps [true to size]

To cap off the “What to wear to Thanksgiving” outfits, I’m ending with my favorite look from all of the options, the faux fur vest look. I’m a sucker for vests, mostly because I feel like I should be in Vail everytime I wear one and well, Vail is a magical place. Super comfortable yet super chic. That turkey’s got nothin’ on you…Via Spiga Faux Fur Vest [true to size, wearing in XS] // Splendid Scoop Neck Tee [true to size, wearing in small] // Spanx Faux Leather Leggings [true to size, wearing in small] // Sam Edelman Hazel Pumps [true to size]
There we have it! My top looks for Thanksgiving this year! Be sure to check out all of the options from above in the widget below and hey, happy Thanksgiving one month early 😉 I’m thankful to have you here!
