From Work To Play // 4 Outfits For A Girl On The Go

Oh work wear, you always seem to be a topic of conversation among us ladies. I think we can all agree that dressing for the workplace can sometimes be a difficult challenge, especially if you know you’re hitting martini club immediately following 5:00 pm. If there is one thing I have learned over the years it is that panty hose and cocktails don’t always mix. And yes, I did have to wear panty hose at a previous job. Hi, I’m 30 going on 84.

Recently the girls and I at the office decided it would be a fun challenge to each find an outfit that would work well for both work and play. Think something appropriate enough for 8-5 yet something fun enough for 5-9. This may entail losing a piece or two, swapping out shoes or adding a fun accessory, but we got the job done. To complete this fun little challenge, we hit up my personal favorite store to shop for work attire, Express, and hit the ground running. I love their price points and all of the options that can easily be worn for work or a date night out. Fortunately Express did not let us down and we were able to find looks that felt good and looked even better.

Before we jump straight into our work vs play outfits we thought it would be fun to share a quick look into our office and work lives…come on in!

These ladies above currently complete the LIY team and oh how much I love them all. For some quick formal introductions we have Cassidy [Summer Intern/Creative Sidekick] on the left, Steph [Operations Assistant] in the middle and Becca [Creative Director] on the far right. It is amazing how different each of their skill sets are and how perfectly well we all compliment each other. I truly feel like I hit the jackpot with each one of these girls.

It doesn’t hurt that we all share a deep love for coffee, a similar sense of humor and feel nearly 99.9% comfortable to say anything/everything in front of each other [so yes, it gets weird sometimes]. I will share more in detail about all of them in an upcoming post and what they do, but as you can see – they are all pretty dang cute, brilliant, creative and in a lot of cases – everything I am not. And that, I am grateful for 😉

We get together in the office on Mondays and Thursdays to discuss all things LIY [but mostly to sing along to Rihanna, have impromptu tea parties and eat Mexican food. A loooooot of Mexican food]. On this particular day we decided to take our love for Mexican food outside of the office and hit up a local restaurant for a heaping bowl of queso, margaritas of every flavor and approximately 37 baskets of chips but who is counting.
To keep things a little lighter and not so heavy on the work wear, we made a few minor changes….
This cute little thing dropped the blazer and added a scarf [aka neckerchief] while others of us were more concerned about the cheese…

I am obsessed with this lace cutout top which makes a statement as soon as you drop the blazer and expose the back. Add a margarita and BAM, outfit complete.

As much as I love working alongside these women, I love our personal time together even more. Getting to know these girls outside of a computer screen will forever be my most valued time together – ladies, if you are reading [you better be proofreading this because Lord knows we’ll have one thousand and ten typos if you don’t] I love you! Team LIY fo’ life.
To break down each outfit and how we went from work to play you can peep it all below along with all of the links to shop!
To complete this work to play look simply remove the blazer [or keep it on, it’s pretty fun] and you are set! The back of the shirt will speak for itself!
Slim Fit Portofino Shirt [buy one get one 50% off, true to size] // Cuffed Sleeve Soft Crepe Boyfriend Jacket [true to size] // High Waisted Pintucked Pencil Skirt [30% off, size down if in between] // Low Block Heeled Sandal [true to size] // Floral Embroidery Top Handle Cross Body Bag // Tassel Trim Neckerchief
Cassidy transformed her outfit by removing the blazer, adding a fun neckerchief and adding an embroidered bag. I am loving the pop of yellow in the skirt something fierce!
Becca also simply removed the jacket and added a fun little clutch. These jogger pants are incredibly comfortable yet also professional. It’s like PAJAMAS IN THE OFFICE SAY WHAAAAAAAAT!!
Zip Back Ribbed Sheath Dress [40% off, true to size] // 20 Inch Shawl Collar Cutaway Jacket [40% off, true to size] // Caged Heeled Sandal [true to size] // Strappy Buckle Wedge Sandal [30% off, true to size] // Fringe Layered Necklace // Turnlock Cross Body Bag
This dress looks awesome both dressed up for work and dressed down for play [it has a great little scoop in the back]. To make things a little more less worky-work Steph swapped out the heels for a pair of sandals and was ready to roll.
There you have it – 4 completely different looks that can last you all day [and night] long!
