For those of you still following our California adventures, hoooray – you survived past day one. Don’t worry, we only have six more to go. I think they get shorter after this one but don’t quote me on that. It turns out that the first half of our trip was quite fun. Although so was the second half of the trip. Did I mention I’m ready to go back yet? Right, I’ll shut up now.
I am going to make this semi-quick and just drop a crap ton of pictures on you because our household is getting sick and this achy body is ready to hit the bathtub. Fun times.
Monday morning we woke up at 4:30 [EST problems] and patiently waited for the sun to rise so we could gallivant all around the Lakehouse property taking in the sights, sunshine, and coffee.

That raspberry ice tea right there was exactly what I needed to plunge into my 7:30 am hot tub session. There are two pools and two hot tubs at this resort which makes it nice so you don’t have to awkwardly sit staring at others first thing in the morning while bubbles are smacking you in the face.

Off to the lobby to do a little exploring….

And back to the pool to stay for hours on end.

By the time 1 pm rolled around, I was tired of laying around [WTF WAS I THINKING] and so I convinced Shawn that we needed to try our hand at paddle boarding. Neither one of us had done this before so I was slightly concerned that I was going to face plant into the lake, but it turned out to not be nearly as difficult as assumed. This was probably one of the highlights from the trip for me – we were able to go for a mile and then turn around and come back to the resort. As you go further, you find yourself in between two giant hills [think mountains] and it’s nothing but you, the birds, and your board. Dang, that was a good moment.

After getting all cleaned up we headed off to the cute beach town of Carlsbad to hit up our favorite Mexican joint for happy hour.

Las Olas has these pineapple n’ chile margaritas and dang, they are good. And have a major kick to em’.

After sucking up that goodness, we walked down to the beach to take in one of the most beautiful sunsets over the ocean. Ain’t nothin’ better than a good ole fashioned West Coast sunset…

Mad props to Jesus for that one.

To end the day we traveled down the coast to Cardiff-by-the-Sea to eat at one of our favorite waterfront restaurants, Pacific Coast Grill.

A big ole helping of steak, mashed potatoes and asparagus later we were off to Cold Stone Creamery to arrive back at our hotel just in time to watch the Bachelor.

And that my friends completes one of the those really incredible days that you never want to take for granted.
