Because, Why Not?

December 30, 2014

In case you weren’t aware, a new year is right around the corner. I don’t know if you are anything like me [my apologies if so] but I am the biggest resolution, mantra, goal junkie there is. With every turn of a new year, a mile long list appears in my planner of all of the things I want to do, see, accomplish, etc. Regardless of whether they end up happening or not, it’s always fun to embrace the possibilities.
When I found out about Motorola’s fully customizable smartphone, moto X, the wave of all the new year feelings flooded over me. As hinted at above, I have been on the hunt for what my motto for 2015 will be. And then the other day when my best friend say “because, why not?” after deciding to meet me to get my nails done and drink wine together in the middle of a weekday afternoon I knew that was it. So often people’s first response to doing random/spontaneous/new/crazy things is “why?!’ but for me — I want to be more of a “because, why not?!” kind of girl. Take a hip hop class in 2015? Why not? Learn how to use my camera in manual mode? Why not? Leave my Christmas tree up until March? Why not? You get the picture.
Back to the moto X though and why this smartphone made my heart go pitter-patter. You can custom design this phone to every last liking. MotoMaker.com is the online studio where you can design your Moto X. You choose the colors, leather or wood and decide all the details: front, back, accents, memory storage, wallpapers, even add a name or a short message that is laser engraved on the back. Here are a few screenshots of what the design process looked like for me. It’s so easy and fun, I wanted to design twelve billion of them.
First, picking out the back color…..

And from there choosing the trim color…lemon lime, why not?

Creating a custom greeting…I went with “be awesome today” because well, why not?

Here’s my favorite part — the custom engraving that you can do on the back of the phone. With my mantra in mind, I wrote the obvious….

Here are a few other things to note about this phone:

The new Moto X raises the bar in design with a perfectly-sized 5.2-inch HD display and a curved frame that fits comfortably into your hand.

It lets you do more using only your voice, working with favorite apps like Facebook, Twitter, Google Play Music and Pandora. It’s aware of where you are–in the car, in a meeting or going to sleep–and adjusts to your preferences accordingly.

You can even name it whatever you want and ask it questions “Wake up, Shirley… what’s the weather?”

The camera makes sure you capture every can’t-miss moment, even at the most dimly lit holiday / New Year’s Eve parties.

The Best Shot feature takes several photos before and after you snap the picture and identifies your optimal shot.

It even knows if you’ve taken several pictures at a party or on vacation, and will organize them into a highlight reel with options for music and special effects.

The new Moto X is everything you want in a premium smartphone without the premium price. It is available for $99 with a two-year contract and $499 without a contract. Add $25 for the wood or leather backs.

What are you waiting for? Get to designing your phone now and let me know in the comments below what your motto, word, or goals are for 2015.
