I don’t know about you, but when I go to my closet to put on an outfit, 9 times of 10 I’m reaching for a pair of skinny jeans to wear with some sort of top. They’re flattering, there’s not much thinking that goes into how to style them, and they’re probably the most readily available in stores! It’s second nature for me to instantly filter to skinny jeans when shopping online.
If Shawn is reading this, he’s probably thinking it’s a good thing because that means I don’t need to buy any more jeans since I have plenty of skinny jeans I love! But unfortunately for Shawn, that’s not going to be the case. I’ve got some shopping to do. I wanted to challenge myself to step out of my comfort zone and try out a few non-skinny pairs of pants and encourage you to branch out as well! Once you start paying attention to all of the other fits that are currently out there, you’ll be blown away by all the new styles that you “need” to try like me!
As soon as I set out on this mission to find non-skinny pants, I knew Gap would have what I needed, and sure enough, I was right! Everything you see here is from Gap, who is currently running their biggest sale of the year- The Great Gap Sale, with up to 75% off! I love the quality and style of Gap clothes and the convenience that I can check out in one spot for my purchases from all of their brands [Old Navy, Banana Republic, Athleta, and Hill City]!
Linen Pants
Gap High Rise Wide-Leg Crop Pants in Pure Linen [TTS, wearing size 2] // Gap Softspun Twist-Back Tank Top [TTS, wearing size small] // Gap Stacked Heel Sandals // Gap Mini Bucket Bag
First, I tried out a pair of cropped linen pants! Linen is SO much cooler than jeans [especially skinny jeans!] in the heat of summer! These have a wide leg fit and are a great neutral color for the summer months! I paired it with a simple tank with a surprise detail on the back [gotta let the pants do the talkin’!] and a little tuck to show off the thick waist band! These are a great option for either a casual or a more dressed up look! It’s all about what you pair them with!
Bootcut Jeans
Gap Mid Rise Perfect Boot Jeans [TTS, wearing size 26 Short] // Gap Button-Back Tulip Sleeve Top [TTS, wearing size small] // Gap Stacked Heel Sandals
Next, I went with a pair of bootcut jeans! I remember wearing bootcut jeans in middle school. Probably because I’m considering them to be a more toned-down version of the flare, so maybe I wore flares, maybe I wore bootcut, maybe I wore nothing but soccer shorts- we’ll never know. Either way, bootcut jeans are crazy flattering and give you legs for days! And when you’re 5’4″ like me, you’ll take all the legs you can get! I balanced out the bootcut with this striped top with fun buttons up the back, and pulled it all together with a subtle stacked heel!
Girlfriend Jeans
Gap Mid Rise Best Girlfriend Jeans with Distressed Detail [TTS, wearing size 26] // Gap Apron Tank Top [TTS, wearing size small] // Gap Leather Slide Sandals
Last and most DEFINITELY not least, I gave girlfriend jeans a try! Ohhhh, baby, do I love these. Girlfriend jeans have a looser fit to them than skinny jeans, and sometimes [like in this case], a bit of distressing! They’re great to pair with a more feminine top like this tank top to keep these balanced! I had to throw on a pair of leopard sandals, because I can’t resist leopard, but girlfriend jeans also look great with a pair of heels!
Now that you’ve seen three ways to step away from the skinny jeans, how will you switch it up first? Linen pants, bootcut jeans, girlfriend jeans, or something else? Grab them while they’re on sale, now through July 9th!
