Disclosure: Thank you to Walmart and ShopStyle for sponsoring today’s post.
Is that a little NYE sparkle in your eye, or have you been working on your eye make up routine for the holidays? Around the holidays, we tend to step out of our makeup comfort zone- trying a red lip color we’ve been holding off on, adding a little extra blush to give that “I just stepped in from the cold” look, or spending a bit of extra time on our eyes. With extra parties, dinners, and happy hours all happening this time of year, it’s the right time to pull off something new [because yes, you can pull off anything!].
If you’re anything like me you own fifteen eye shadow palettes and use the same three colors from each one. Maybe one day I’ll switch it up, but as long as I know how to use those few colors the right way, I may not have to! But with prices that don’t break the bank, I don’t feel as bad trying out different looks! That’s where Walmart comes into play. They have the beauty brands I know and recognize [Loreal, Maybelline NYX, e.l.f. etc.], at a price I’m comfortable with [aka Shawn won’t question my shopping trips]. There’s nothing worse than walking into a beauty store and having no clue what I’m thinking about spending $25 on or how to use it. As Ariana Grande says, “thank u, next.” I don’t have that problem with Walmart. On many products, I can even shop online and pick my items up the same day in store! So this season, we’re going to peruse the virtual aisles of Walmart while we get our eyes holiday ready.
Clearly, we know how to make the champagne pop. But do we know how to make the eyes pop? Our eyes are so defining of the way our face looks, and the way we do our eye makeup plays a big role in the way they look! So we need to make sure things are poppin’. We’re here to help! There are a few simple steps you can take, with products you may already own, to make your beautiful eyes stand out even more this holiday season. Ready to have your eyes be the envy of everyone in the room? Here’s how…
1. Use Color to Your Advantage

How old were you when you learned how to do your eye makeup specifically for your eye color? I was today year’s old. That’s how old. Just like your body type has certain clothing styles that work better than others, your eyes have specific colors that make them pop better than others. Did you know that there are actually certain colors you should be using in your eye makeup to make your natural eye color stand out more? If you didn’t know this, don’t worry, apparently I’ve been using the wrong colors my whole life! Rock any color you want, because girl YOU BE YOU! But there are definitely colors that will accent your eyes better than others. Throughout this post, you can see looks on three different eye colors! For green eyes, try to stick to purples. For blue eyes, neutrals looks best. And finally, for brown eyes, pinks and greens are your friend.
2. Fake It

If you really want to step up the drama, let false lashes be your bestie. False lashes and lash extensions have been on the rise in popularity over the past few years, but not everyone wants to a) pay to have them professionally applied, and b) have them for more than a night or two. For those of you that are in either group a OR b, follow our lead. Magnetic. False. Lashes. Yes, that means no glue. Just magnets. While they did take a few attempts to get these bad boys on right, they had quite the impact once they were set! False lashes create an illusion that eyes are more open and wider than normal, which is what really gives them that “wow.”
3. Shimmer In All The Right Places
Revlon ColorStay Eyeliner, Brown // Ardell Accents 001 Magnetic Lash // L’Oreal Paris Voluminous Lash Paradise Washable Mascara, Blackest Black // Maybelline New York The Burgundy Bar Eye Shadow Palette
Balance a highlighting shimmer and shine on your lid, with a darker matte shadow in the crease to really make your eyes pop. The bright shimmer helps to pop forward while the dark matte pushes backward, making it extra dramatic, and a perfect holiday look! We found that when applying the shimmer color [we chose a silver/white shimmer], it goes on best by using your ring finger to apply rather than a brush! Real makeup pros over here 😉 And really, can you ever have too much shimmer and shine when it comes to the holidays? I think not, friends…. I think not.
