Slip-On Comparison: The Most Comfortable Shoe Found!

June 2, 2019

By:

Erin Schrader

It was just a month or so ago when we hit publish on a sneaker comparison post and it was exactly that time when we thought to ourselves “self, I need to know what the most comfortable pair of slip-on shoes is now too.” Because we don’t like to let ourselves or our curiosity down, we decided to put ’em to the test. I’m a huge slip-on girl all through the year. Any day that I can avoid laces is a good day for me.

There’s just something about a great pair of shoes that you can slip your feet into that you know will take you all through the day without blisters or swear words that makes getting dressed and out the door a tad bit more enjoyable! While there are so many styles of slip-ons on the market, we narrowed down our top brands that we either love personally or have heard a lot about to put to the test. Ready to see which ones we compared? Without further ado…

MEET THE SLIP-ONS WE COMPARED & TESTED:

HOW WE TESTED AND RATED THE SHOES:

Three of the girls on the team thankfully share the same shoe size and have varying arch levels [from the highest of highs to the lowest of lows – spoiler alert: I’m the lowest of the low, absolutely no arch here]. We each wore every pair for at least 24 hours on a day of higher levels of activity to get a true sense of just how comfortable they are for all day wear. These are the categories that we gave a 1-5 score on [5 being the highest, 1 being the lowest].

  • Arch Support
  • Overall Comfort
  • Overall Appearance

We also made notes if no-show socks were required, if they caused blisters or not and if we would actually purchase the shoe. After gathering all of the data in our trusty little spreadsheet, we were able to bring you a calculated score of just how the sneakers ranked up and compared against one another, in turn allowing us to bring YOU the BEST sneaker for all day wear below! Ready to find out the results? Keep reading….

THE RESULTS

Overall Winner — Dr. Scholl’s Madison Slip-On Sneaker!

These Dr. Scholl’s Madison Slip-On Sneaker did not disappoint in any arena. In fact, all 3 of us who tested the shoe noted that we all found them to the most comfortable for all day wear. That Dr. Scholl sure knew what he was doing when designing these.

Fit Tip: True to size

What we liked:

  • The comfort is undeniable! You can absolutely wear these all day long without problems. If you’re traveling and need a shoe for all day exploring, these babies are it!
  • The price! For under $50 these are a great value that should last for years!
  • The breathable material makes it so your feet don’t get too warm while wearing! Two of us wore these without any socks and found them to work perfectly with “naked” feet.
  • For those of us who don’t require a ton of arch support, these were a great happy medium. They do have some support but it’s not uncomfortable.

What we didn’t like:

  • For Steph who requires a lot of arch support noted that while these don’t have the most arch support of the ones we tested, they were still comfortable for all day wear. However, if you need a LOT of arch support, you may need to look into a different option.

Was this pair our favorite? 3/3 deemed this pair our favorite.

Would we buy this pair? 3/3 said yes, we would buy this pair.

Runner up — Steve Madden Ecentrcq Slip-On Sneaker

I have owned these Steve Madden Ecentrcq Slip-On Sneakers for years and have always thought pretty highly of them. Apparently the two other girls felt the same. Here’s what we liked and didn’t like about these babies!

Fit Tip: Size up one as these do run small!

What we liked:

  • Overall comfort — these do withhold a full day of wear pretty well! While we didn’t find them as comfortable as the Dr. Scholl’s, these were a good alternative!
  • The quilted material is visually appealing and are easy to pair with a lot of outfits!

What we didn’t like:

  • Not breathable. While the quilted material is cute from a visual standpoint, because they don’t breathe your feet may s-w-e-a-t. Because of this I personally would be more apt to wear these during the fall or early spring.
  • Slight rubbing on the back of the ankle after all day wear!

Would we buy this pair? 2/3 of us said yes, we would buy this pair!

Another collective group favorite — Converse Chuck Taylor All Star Shoreline Slip-On Sneaker

You’ve heard us talk about them for years and for good reason — these Converse Chuck Taylor All Star Shoreline Slip-On Sneaker are definitely a team favorite around here. While we love these for different reasons than the above [visual > comfort] they are a fun addition to have in any closet!

Fit Tip: True to size

What we liked:

  • Appearance! These were our favorite pair for an everyday shoe that can go with nearly everything in your closet! I wear these year round with jeans, dresses, skirts, shorts, etc. Super versatile from a wearability perspective.
  • Comfort. While these aren’t as comfortable as our #1 ranked slip-on, they are adequately comfortable for a few hours of wear at a time here and there. While I wouldn’t choose these to walk Disney all day, I would wear them to a sporting event for several hours!

What we didn’t like:

  • Some ankle rubbing by end of day – while we found these to be the best out of any Converse we’ve tried, a couple of us did note that by the end of the day there was some slight discomfort happening at the back of the ankle.
  • No arch support. If you are in need of arch support, this pair may not be for you!

Would we buy this pair? 3/3 would buy this pair!

A top pick from Erin — Rothys Olive Camo Loafer

It was the LIY Tribe who turned me on to Rothy’s so I had to try. These Rothys Olive Camo Loafer did not disappoint personally. I can see why so many people have fallen in love with them and I can also see why some people don’t like them at all. I was the exception of the group who deemed these one of my favorites which you can read more why below!

Fit Tip: Size up .5

What we liked:

  • Lightweight – these were the MOST lightweight shoes that we tested and compared. You almost can’t feel that you are even wearing them due to how light they really are.
  • How they are made: All Rothy’s are made with recycled materials [plastic water bottles to be exact] which is a great concept. I love that by wearing these you are helping the environment.
  • 100% Machine Washable – this is probably my favorite trait about them. You can throw the entire shoe and insert into your washing machine whenever needed to keep them fresh and clean. This is good because wearing no-show socks with these most likely isn’t an option!
  • Flexible. It felt like my foot was in a sock, not a shoe. You have complete bend-ability in these!
  • Appearance. They are definitely eye catching and quite cute. I love all of the patterns that Rothy’s come in!

What we didn’t like:

  • No support [really, at all]. If you need arch support, I wouldn’t recommend these.
  • For the others, they didn’t love the texture of the shoe on their feet. It does take some getting used to.
  • Price – at $165 these are definitely a splurge and not a cheap option, at all.

Would we buy this pair? 1/3 would buy this pair.

Staying on the Rothy’s train — next up are the Rothy’s Grey Camo Sneaker.

This is the sneaker slip-on version that Rothy’s has to offer and again, I personally loved them while the others didn’t. These do have more support than the loafer so this could be a good option for those of you who need a little something more in that department.

Fit Tip: Size up .5

What we liked:

  • Lightweight – again, like the loafer, these are incredibly lightweight on your feet!

What we didn’t like:

  • Texture on foot – like I mentioned above, the texture is different than what we are typically used to. While it didn’t cause blisters, it almost creates a similar feeling to your feet going numb from the rubbing of the material.
  • Price – While these are cheaper than the loafer [still coming in at $125] they are quite pricey for a casual slip-on shoe.

Would we buy this pair? 1/3 said we would buy this pair.

A pair we didn’t fall for — OluKai ‘Pehuea’ Slip-On Sneaker

As we’re nearing the bottom of the list, these OluKai ‘Pehuea’ Slip-On Sneaker are worth a mention, especially if you have wide feet. While we didn’t love them personally, you may find these at the top of your list depending on your foot shape!

Fit Tip: True to size

What we liked:

  • These shoes can be worn two different ways — either as a slide or a slip on! They are designed to bend down in the back which is nice to have two different options depending on how you prefer to wear!
  • Comfortable and lightweight! There is no denying that these are quite light on the feet and are comfortable to wear as they do offer some nice support!

What we didn’t like:

  • Extra wide – All of us noted that these shoes felt too wide for our feet [some of us even noting we have wider feet than normal] and looked / felt unflattering on our feet from a visual perspective.
  • Appearance. These personally felt a little too casual for me [like I should be headed to a beach bar at all times] which would make them a little harder to wear with a lot of outfits.

Would we buy this pair? 0/3 would buy this pair.

Coming in last place, Vionic Splendid Slip-On Sneaker

Similar to our findings in our sneaker comparison post, the Vionic pair just didn’t do it for us unfortunately. These are certainly for those of you who need a LOT of arch support

Fit Tip: Size up one

What we liked:

  • Appearance – we did find these visually appealing and loved the different [and fun] style options!

What we didn’t like:

  • Arch Support – While we get that this pair is designed for arch support, it was highly uncomfortable for those of us who didn’t need it and even those of us who did.
  • Clunky, Heavy, Stiff – I’m not sure if they just need to be broken in or if they will remain this way, but this pair was definitely the heaviest and bulkiest pair that we tried in this comparison. If you’re wanting a lightweight pair for summer, these probably aren’t it.

Would we buy this pair? 0/3 said we would buy this pair.

And now you know. Are you surprised with our findings? Agree? Disagree? We’d love to hear your feedback on what slip-ons you are loving these days!
