What to Wear To Your Next Tailgate [Top 10 College Team Outfit Picks!]

August 20, 2018

The best season of all is ALMOST here [yes, I’m talking about football season – I firmly believe that there is spring, summer, football and winter]. I’d pretend that I love this season for the sport itself but it’s honestly the chip dips, excuses to get together with friends in the middle of a Saturday and of course – tailgate outfits. For the past 32 years of life, I’ve been cheering for one team and one team only when it comes to college football and I’ll give you one guess as to who that may be based on my outfit above [hint: starts with Notre and ends with Dame]. I blame it on the close proximity to South Bend that has me loving all things navy and gold. We often go over to campus to tailgate with friends so having a wardrobe ready to roll for those Saturday’s at the stadium is high on my list of priorities come September.

With all of the football fun quickly approaching, we thought it seemed necessary to make sure we’re all prepared for game day. Today we’re talking tailgate outfits, covering the top 10 most popular college football teams [google gave us the list, it wasn’t self chosen us so please direct all tomatoes thrown towards google if you don’t see your team on the list below ;)] so that you can be prepared to cheer your favorite team on this fall. Before we dive in, here are a few quick general pointers when it comes to dressing for tailgates over the next couple of months:

Layers

Tailgates can last ALL DAY LONG [if you’re lucky ;)] Because of this, the weather can change from morning to evening and typically I find myself starting in something that will keep me cool and by the time the game rolls around, I’m throwing on an extra layer to stay warm all evening long. My go to layering picks for tailgates are a simple tank in your teams colors combined with a plaid top in coordinating team colors tied around the waist. Once you need it, simply untie and put it on!

As it gets cooler into the season, add in a third layering piece – either a jacket or vest that will help keep the chill off while you cheer your head off.

Comfortable Shoes

I get it, fall is prime time to show off all of those cute booties you bought, but save those for another time away from the football field. When hanging out on your feet all day, you’re going to want shoes that you won’t suffer in. Bonus points if you can find them in your teams colors. I turn to my tried and true classic favorites – Converse [which you can find in so many colors]! Whether its Converse or your favorite pair of Nikes, just make sure they feel good and can handle hours on end!

Jeans You Can Move In

I’m a huge denim girl when it comes to tailgates. When I spotted this pair, I knew they would be absolutely perfect for tailgates all fall and early winter long. While I love the look of distressed jeans, I don’t want something that is going to allow the cold air to come through which makes this reinforced pair a winner. All American Eagle jeans have proven to be some of my all-time favorites as they are so comfortable, don’t stretch out after hours and hours of wear and come in all different inseam lengths, no matter your height!

Be Bag Conscious

As you may or may not know by now, stadiums are cracking down on their bag policies and the last thing you want to do is make it up to the ticket counter and have to turn around to take your bag back to the car. Many stadiums are requiring clear bags these days and if not clear, they often have to be under a certain size. Here are a few clear bag options that we rounded up for you:

If your stadium doesn’t require a clear bag, I would still think along the lines of a crossbody bag. You want to stay hands free so that you can have those spirit fingers held high at all times.
