I think if there is one thing that we as people collectively have a thing for, it’s shoes. At least in my household, we do. Not only am I at max capacity all of the time on where I can put another pair of heels, Shawn is equally guilty in this department. Every Christmas I like to feed his hunger for stylish footwear with at least one pair of shoes [or better yet, slippers]. Every year I feel like his favorite gift(s) end up being shoes and vice versa. This year I thought it would be fun to satisfy both of our loves with shoes for three common events — active days on the go, nights in at home and nights out on the town. To put a little spin on “just a pair of shoes” I thought it would be a little more fun and creative to create an event or date out of each pair of shoes.

Before I get into all of that and before you go thinking “but it’s too late to plan for this! Christmas is only a few days away!” don’t fret. I got all of the items you’ll see here at Nordstrom because well, I buy most everything at Nordstrom but also because they are always there for me to save me in my times of procrastination, which is always. With their fast free shipping, option to buy online and pick up in store [this is so great – you simply set your store online, check out on your computer in the comfort of your own home and then head to that store and run in and pick it up, or better yet, they’ll bring it out to your car for you!] or their eGifting service which is new and magical. Here’s how it works: You pick out the gift online [when looking at the specific product, scroll down under the item details and you’ll see the option to send as an eGift] pay for it and enter the email of who you are sending it to. They will then receive a message saying they have received a gift and can click to view – from there the recipient gets to choose the color and size they want, their shipping address and once complete and the item(s) will automatically be sent to them! I love that this is way more personal than a gift card and ensures that they will receive s0mething that actually fits and is in a shade that looks awesome on them! I also appreciate that this can be done literally one minute before you need to have a gift in their hands so for procrastinators like me, we are off the hook 😉

Alright, back to the shoes now. It took a hot second to decide which shoes I wanted for myself and for Shawn because wow, the selection is insane. Proof here [her] and here [him]. Did I decide to get matching-ish shoes? Maybe. Do I feel good about it? You better believe it. You know what they say, the couple that matches their shoes…probably gets made fun of, I mean stays together. Here are the three ideas of gifts I came up with and how I made it more into a complete gift/adventure!

Here is how you can make it a complete gift: Now that you have the shoes, plan a day date around something active to go with them. My first pick for this would be to buy tickets for a bike tour in a city near you. Surprise him with either a brew tour, foodie tour or architectural ride, depending on the different options they offer. If biking isn’t up your alley, put together a local “discovery day” and map out your route around your hometown of stops you’ll make. Start at a coffee shop you’ve never been to, venture into a store you’ve both been saying you’ve wanted to look at, eat lunch at a new spot, hit up the local theater in the afternoon, walk a trail you haven’t yet discovered, just get out and go! A new pair of kicks with a map routed out sounds like something we could all get excited about.

Is there anything better than a night out on the town when you are both lookin’ fly in new kicks and clothes? Date nights can be hard to come across to feeling extra fab while on them is a must. I’m a huge UGG slipper lover so when I saw this new sunshine style, I knew my feet wanted nothing more than to slip into them.
