It’s a request I see all of the time – fashionable, comfortable, affordable and professional(ish) clothing that can be worn to work. Because I don’t work in an office type setting anymore, my need for work wear has decreased dramatically, however, I took it upon myself this past week to peruse my local Macy’s to see what I could find. I started there because I knew that they have a big ole selection of inventory that would fall under this “work wear” category and that I would find pieces that don’t break the bank.

With fall upon us, I decided to look for items that would work well for the months ahead – this, of course, meant all of the delicious fall colors and layering, all of the layering. Because I want to make this a regular series of sorts, I thought I would break it up into styles, starting with the classic black pants. Personally when I worked outside of the home, black pants were always my go-to. Call me boring, but that was always the easiest office look for me to rock. As long as I had a good pair [or five] of black pants, I felt like my options were unlimited. Today I’ve rounded up 5 different black pant outfits for the office that will last you all fall long. Next on the list to tackle? Skirts and dresses – stay tuned for that, but for now, let’s dive into what I found! Real quick – it should be noted that many of these items below are on sale at Macy’s currently so stock up while you can!

1. Look for layering pieces.
Bar III Faux-Leather Flyaway Vest [true to size, wearing in small]// Bcx Juniors’ Tab-Sleeve Shirt [true to size, wearing in small]// Bar III Zip-Pocket Pull-On Skinny Pants [true to size] // Inc International Concepts Women’s Kenjay d’Orsay Pumps [true to size]

I am kinda obsessed with this faux leather vest. Wearing a simple button up shirt is so easy and can be quite blah really, however, when you throw a piece like this over it, the entire outfit comes alive. The other plus side? You’ll actually stay warm. I am still trying to figure out why work places are freaking freezing and what we can do to control this situation, but until that task is accomplished, layering may just be the only preventative option. I paired these tops with these pull-on skinny pants [yes, pull-on means no button or zippers required which is amaaaaazing]. They also have a great zipper detail that provides a slight edge to any outfit.

2. Add pops of color and pattern in your accessories. Inc International Concepts Ruffled-Sleeve Top [true to size, wearing in small] // Bar III Zip-Pocket Pull-On Skinny Pants [true to size] // Inc International Concepts Women’s Kenjay d’Orsay Pumps [true to size] // Fossil Fiona Printed Satchel // Inc International Concepts Gold-Tone Stone & Thread Statement Necklace

Sometimes it’s nice to rely on your classic blacks, whites and other neutrals to get you through the day, however, so much of that and you can start to become the office bore. Keep your outfits interesting by introducing colors and different patterns in your accessories. For me, shoes and handbags are the easiest ways to do this. When my eyes saw this satchel bag, they knew it would be the perfect piece to pair with literally just about everything. With suede being totally on trend for fall, I added in these pumps in this great teal color for fall. One more side note about this look – when it comes to outfits that you are wearing all day long, it’s important that they be comfortable and flexible. It’s nice to break up the routine of wearing structured tops every once in awhile with something that has a little more flow and detail to it. Which leads me to my next look….

3. Take current trends into the work place. Alfani Bell-Sleeve Top [true to size, wearing in 2] // Maison Jules Straight-Leg Ankle Pants [size down if in between] //Inc International Concepts Women’s Kenjay d’Orsay Pumps [true to size] // Inc International Concepts Gold-Tone Stone & Thread Statement Necklace // Fossil Fiona Printed Satchel

I think we all know that bell sleeves are all of the rage these days. Don’t kid yourself into thinking that you need to save these trends for outside of the office only. Introduce your 9-5 to the trends that you are wearing on the weekends. As long as the trend you are rocking is still tastefully done [ie: work appropriate] I say go for it girlfriend.

4. Add in feminine details
Bcx Juniors’ Printed Roll-Tab Shirt [true to size, wearing in small] // Bcx Juniors’ Ruched-Sleeve Button-Front Blazer [true to size, wearing in small] // Maison Jules Straight-Leg Ankle Pants [size down if in between] // Inc International Concepts Carma Pointed Toe Studded Kitten Heel Pumps [true to size]

Don’t shy away from being extra girly-girl in the office. We all know you’re tough on the inside, but there’s no shame in the game of being proud to be a female [afterall, who runs the world?] If you want to wear those florals, wear those florals. If you want studded blush heels, you best be wearing those studded blush heels [rumor has it that they are great assistants to kickin’ major booty]. If you want to tone down the girliness, pair it with a structured yet comfortable blazer [I love this one which has ruched sleeves].

5. Don’t be afraid to try a new style. Style & Co Embroidered Peasant Top [true to size, wearing in small] //Inc International Concepts Curvy Pull-On Straight-Leg Pants [size down if in between] // Inc International Concepts Carma Pointed Toe Studded Kitten Heel Pumps [true to size]

You may not be a natural boho babe, but why not give it a try? Add in pieces that will make your coworkers say “wow! I love that you wore something other than a plain black shirt and pants today!” I love this top with the embroidered detail [although looking back wish I would have paired it with skinny pants to the structure of the overall outfit better] with a classic pair of black pants. The reason why I love these pants? They have an elastic waistband. No zipping or buttoning and super comfortable. I would size down though for a better fit, I didn’t and as you can see they do look a little baggy.

So there we have it. Five different looks that you can wear to work all fall long. Which style are you liking the most? Stay tuned for more work wear posts in the next couple of months. Until then, keep up the good work 😉
